From the secret stash….

I bought these in 1990 give or take, they are sealed in wax, not dried out.

If ya know, ya know.😉

IIRC Dan Janes at JOSS bought all the remaining 'real' Champion tips. If you got a good one they were nice.

I stumbled across what I thought were some old ones out of packaging some years back. They were real old and I never installed one to try, I think I tossed them. I was using Triangles. Are they as good as some say that played them back in the day ? Or are they folklore ? or just period correct cherry on top for restoration of old cues ?

Have a good weekend,

They play great but are leather, so they require maintenance. I use them for period correct restorations the most. But I love Crowns

Best tip ever , back in the late 70's they were the go to for every cue I owned. Later on in the early 80's I noticed the the glue holding
them to the red fiber pads was giving up the ghost. After that when I could find them , I would remove the pad and sand down each side and reglue the tip and pad wait for them to set up and then glue to the cue. Wish they were still being made and were of the quality they once were

It's hard to believe that these can still play good after all the years, they've been around.
There are some good ones still available. You can get from delta billiards at reasonable price. I know someone that buys them. Stay away from the orange color ones. Thay are very mushy/too soft. I tried the comprime version, which played OK. I would say, if your looking buying some, the darker the better. And a lot of them have the fibre pads like triumphs.

That seems surreal, he builds perfection and caps it with a vintage tip?

Good, bad, or indifferent, old leather is not consistent.
Not if they're stored properly. The one's that JOSS has are like new. He offers them at a pricey(35bux) upcharge for those that like them.

He tests the them before using And hand selects the ones to use, nothing Randy does is by chance.

Damn I think I need to try these sometime, Im a tip nut, But always end up going back to non-layered tips. Currently I am loving a " GOOD" Medium elk master, they definitely are not as soft as I was expecting, at least a good one isn't soft. Could this be because I am installing a 13mm elk on 11.6 mm shaft? Either way it's playing fantastic.

What will it take to get a few of the Rockys and Comprimes from you? Tommy D.

I have what's left of a box of the fake rockys. They work as far as they go. Shaping's a pain though. If I had to use another, I'd just glue the frayed surface.
