Changing southwest cue weight

can I change the weight on a southwest cue or is it "as is"

Southwest butt bottoms are threaded onto a stud and tenon set up. Incredibly dangerous to drill in to it. If you do that. They will never give a letter of Authenticity. So it is what it is.

why the hell are these cues so heavy :(

I LOVE shooting with heavy cues.
For me southwest is so perfectly balanced that I don't care if it's 21 oz.
My preferred weight on a play cue in general is 20.5 oz.
In my opinion they just go through the cue ball so easily and effortlessly.
Swing that arm and the cue does the rest.

Call Laurie at The shop-
"I have seen a few S/W cues for sale in the past-
stating S/W reduced the weight

And there is a high nugget of wisdom up in thar.

Balance point and balance point and balance point.

I have seen many cues ruined by adding weight t o the back end.

My SW weights 19.5 oz. and it feels perfect. Nice balance and feels lighter than my cues that's weight 19 0z. I never specified any of the specs other than shaft size, taper and woods. I told her that she knows how to make them and respect her ability and judgement.

A friend of mine had Richard Black make him a cue. It was heavier that he requested and the balance point was not where he requested it to be.

He got the cue and called Richard about it. Richard asked if it felt good? He said yeah it felt great but .... Richard then asked what his complaint was and said don't worry about it and that he knows how to make a cue and how they should feel.

Everyone that tried it loved the cue. He ended up selling it because he didn't like Richard's attitude. He has been searching ever since for a cue that played as good and felt the way that it did. He regrets that's he sold it.

+1 for this. I shot with a Bobby Hunter cue once that was 60 inches and 21 ounces and it played like it was 18oz.

Same with Richard Harris cues as well, he made a lot of heavy cues and they're all so well balanced it doesn't matter.
