Changing the table color

Is it a mortal sin to attempt to change the color of a high quality carom table/rails by sanding and restaining/painting, or is this not unheard of?

i suspect it would highly devalue it as well

Not unless your a high quality finish carpenter and finisher.....as was mentioned olhausens would be ok
