Changing venues when winning

I think people underestimate how big the home court advantage is...

...if the game is not totally out of line. Yeah, I know, we all think we're Paladin, "Have Gun - Will Travel," and all that, but the fact of the matter is that it's *big* in any thing otherwise resembling a close match.

IOWs, you negotiate the point based upon a multitude of factors.

I would tend to agree for players of close-to-equal ability... and I think that's precisely why roadies steer clear of the best players whenever possible. At least most do/did. At any rate, we always tried to pick the table, thereby at least by odds, we weren't playing on the table the homie knew best, if that makes any sense.

For years, back in the action days, road players went broke in Houston....
...and the Sports Palace in Nawlins....humidity made some of your shots look like science fiction.
The home players had a game that had years to adapt.

Then there are tables...I was always happy to see a Brunswick...seems I could sort them
out real quick....had trouble with Robertsons...but they had a table at Bakers with a carom
cloth that I played two balls better on.

I used to gamble with a pretty good player up my way...I would give him 20 points on a
full rack (snooker)...in a room with Fleetwood tables..best I ever did with him was even..
...often, the room closing saved me from going off.
So then I played him at his own room that had Anniversaries...killed him every time...
..he eventually quit me getting 35.

Had a lot of experiences like that.

We still have five 8' Robertsons in the room. We used to have a 9' also, but the owner sold it many years ago. I won a TON of money on those Robertsons in Bakers. Tons. I spent a LOT of time at Baker's. I loved that room. Some of my favorite pool memories are from Baker's.

Yeah, you're preaching to the choir about humidity. It's every bit as humid here as it is in Nawlins. Sometimes I swear the balls have little water-wings on!

If you spent any time at Baker's back in the day, PT, we might even know each other.

Black Max model Robertsons? Those were some pretty good playing tables. I always liked them better than Olhausen, Gandy, and Murrey tables.

I dunno, Chuck. I just Googled Black Max model Robertson and it looks similar but just like CGs I, II or III, they could be diff models than what we have in the room and simply look similar.

They were styled after the Brunswick Anniversary in shape, due to the materials used though, they weren't as heavy and solid. But to me, were better tables than anything not made by Brunswick and Diamond at the time (played on them a lot in the mid 90s).

The factory in Florida suffered a major fire in the late 90s, early 2000s and kind of put a lid on things. I dont know this for sure, but I think they only import tables now, not sure if they are still building any at all.

Yeah, that's the image I saw when I Googled it. Ours are very similar but not ball-returns. Coincidentally, Robertson's was one block away from Baker's in Tampa. In the early to late 70s we would walk over there from Baker's all the time and check out all the stuff they had. Good memories...

Yep...giving the money-chaser what he wants in order to keep playing...?

That is how you turn a 500$ winner into a 5k$ winner.

The way I have always heard this saying is if you are into someone for a grand it means you are loser, if they are into you for a grand they are loser.

I have another take on this, I always like to have as much information as possible so I would say we will take a look at the new location and if I found the tables to be good and the atmosphere good and I am playing as well as I did before I might play. You aren't making a contract to play just looking at the options.

I was going in halves with a friend of mine one night and he was playing a local player spotting him the 7,8 and the break on a bar table for 500 / set. My buddy obviously plays a lot better than him but with the spot it was a close game. We get up two sets and the guy offers to play my buddy even on his home table for 5,000 a set! Of course we say we will take a look at the table and jump in the car. We get to his house and he has an 8' table with good equipment so we say lets play. My friend wins 9 to 1 and the guy says ok I will play you with just the breaks in nine ball for 1K per set race to 5. Again we so go and my buddy wins 14 straight sets before losing one and then wins two more for an additional 20K by going to the guys house.

Moral of the story take a look but don't feel obligated.
