I may be in Charleston for a while. Anybody have some info about tournaments, leagues, or action out there? Thanks in advance for any help!

I've put a link to your post on Bubba Wade"s FB page. He has his finger on the pulse when it comes to tournaments in our area. It will primarily be bar table though. As far as the action part of it I can put you in touch with some folks that can help. Do you play one pocket or banks? What do you like to play and what level would you clock yourself at?

Thanks! I see you're in Goose Creek, I am pretty sure that is where I'll be staying! I like one pocket, but I've been told that there aren't many big tables out there. My general rule of one pocket is I'll play anyone even that I haven't heard of. It has burned me a couple of times, but not too often.

I have been told about the North Park Grill, how is that place?

North Park is a heavy league bar. Nice place though. Monday night would be the best night imo. Monday would have an abundance of good players to watch and poss match up with after league. If you want to play some on big tables Tuckers or Players Place.

I play in the 9 ball league on that web site at North Park Grille. It's a local league run by a couple of good guys. We play on bar tables and the league is devided into AA, A, and B players. Some of the AA players play pretty good (maybe very good would be a better description) and it's a fun league. 3 man teams play each other a race to 9 in 9 ball and the scores are kept for the session with the top 4 teams getting a pretty fair pay off. This is the only league I play in and I enjoy it a lot, but since I'm in the AA devision it's tough if you come to play and you aren't playing your very best game. You can get embarrassed in a hurry. I've learned a lot about 9 ball in this league and the saying about the break shot being the most important shot in 9 ball holds true in this league big time. If your break isn't working and you are playing one of the top AA players and their break is working you are in trouble.

I played a match a couple of weeks ago against one of the top players and our first game went back and forth on safeties and kicks. I finally missed hiding him from a shot by an inch and that game was gone and he proceeded to break and run 5 racks before I came back to the table. I'm down 6-0 in a race to 9 after I missed a safety by 1 inch! He is one of the best players, but that's a sample of the competition in that league. I lost that match 9-2 and I was glad I won 2 games after the 6-0 start. It's a fun league, but don't show up if you aren't ready to play your best game unless you don't mind getting beat.

There's a place on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston called Tucker's Billiard Supply where you can get a 1 pocket game on 9 foot tables. That's the main game that they play there and there are a few regulars who play OK. They are closed on Monday, but open Tuesday thru Saturday.

I run Tournaments around Charleston Area 5 nights @ several locations a week the tournaments are handicapped based on how you play, for more info. you can call me @ 843-709-6101 Thanks Bubba

I've spent a fair amount of time in the Charleston area on business. Never got to play much pool there, didn't have the time. However, it is one of my favorite places in the US, beautiful area, very nice people. Enjoy your time there. And make sure to eat at "The Wreck" in Mt. Pleasant. Save room for dessert, the Key Lime Bread Budding is to die for. Tons of other great restaurants in the area.

I look forward to taking your advice! Thanks.

I was at players place billiards in Charleston last summer. Nice enough place, lots of bar boxes and 4 9 footers iirc. Huge APA leagues 3 nights a week, but I couldn't get squat for action. Nobody wanted to play, not even for fun. I'm sure there is action in that town, I just wasn't finding any that night.

Anybody do cue repair around there? I need a new tip on an OB Classic Pro.

Couldn't tell ya, but I'm sure there is someone in the area that repairs cues, check in the ask a cuemaker section.

If you are looking for some attractions in Charleston I'll give you the quick rundown of my experience there.

Carriage Tours- These are great if you enjoy that sort of thing. Our guide was cool and very informative. It was worth the money

Old Jail Haunted Tour- I didn't care for it. It was very short and had a lot of embellishing. Not worth the money in my opinion.

Fort Sumter Tour- Pretty cool, decent guide, nice area for picture taking. If you are a history buff it's worth the money.

Beach- fun day for the family, but probably not this time of year. We enjoyed it.

Charleston City Market- Tourist trap but we enjoyed a day walking around and buying stuff we didn't really need!

The Angel Oak-- If you get a chance check this out, it's only a short drive out of town but this is without a doubt the most amazing tree you will ever see. It's free too! While you are in the area check out the tea plantation.

Cypress Gardens- This is also a really cool place to go. Short drive out of town (less than 45 min) This is were they shot some of the swamp scenes from the movie The Patriot. This is a low cost day but a great bang for your buck.

I'm sure I am forgetting some of the other things we did while we was there. There are a lot of thing to see just walking around. There is a Farmers Market in the park that is huge, but only on certain days of the month. Check out Battery Park, Shem Creek too.

PM me if you want to see some pictures from our trip and I will send you a link to my FB page.

Those pics look great! I can't wait to get there and start checking things out. Anyone else have any suggestions?
