Cheap Break Cue advice

I'm a decent/average player (APA 4 rated) that plays in a league once a week and practices as well. I don't play in big tournaments. I'm looking for a cheap break cue ( under $100). My main cue now is a McDermott G-Core (not sure if that is important for break cue info). I probably won't be able to 'test it out' so will be getting it off the Internet. Suggestions?

I have a Cuetec Mike Massey Devestator #99296 Jump/Break cue slightly used in excellent condition for $75 shipped.

These cues retail for $150 or more.

These cues are really built good and will last a long time.

Brown phenolic one piece tip and ferrule combination.

LOL...okay, I have a brand new J&J natural color jump/break cue with a linen wrap. $60 shipped.

I would go to ebay and buy a J & J jump break, they are hard to beat for the money. I think one would cost you around $50 to $60.

I second the J&J jump/break. The taper is really thick and stiff (get your mind out of the gutter) and it breaks the balls hard (lot of innuendos here). On the plus side it jumps fairly well and they're dirt cheap compared to other decent breakers. A good beginning breaker I suppose.

The J&J is a solid break cue, but I don't like the thick taper. I believe it is a 14mm tip. I prefer leather over phenolic as well. That's just preference though. Action makes a jump/break with a phenolic tip for around $60 also. The taper is a lot thinner.

Look on Ebay

I agree with the above posts about J&J. I picked mine up on Ebay and was able to opt for a samsara tip. Ended up costing me $89 I think, that's new tip and shipping. I wanted the leather tip to make sure I was "legal" with all leagues.

I gotta go along with the J&J as well. I bought one for my daughter, but she didn't like the phenolic tip/ferrule combo, so I faced it down to 5/8" long on my lathe and put on a Samsara for her and she loves it, It's a hard hitting cue.

Manwon's idea of the J&J was good. But honestly if you don't put a high dollar tip on you're McDermott then you should probably break with that.

I got a cheap players and there's only one thing wrong with it: the shiny coating on the shaft.

Even if conditions are cool and dry, you get that squeaky chafing when swinging the cue. This may take a couple of mph off your stroke and I wish I'd thought of that before buying. I ended up using house cues instead.

If you use a glove it's not an issue and then I could recommend it. But if you don't, try to find out if the cue you want has that laminate on the shaft or not.

I am another advocate of the J&J cheap, and a good solid jump/break cue, you could probably get one on ebay for $50 or even less, use the $ you saved and get a good break tip on it, white diamons are nice and they only cost $7.95, they perform (IMHO) as well as a samsara and samsara's cost about $15

So it seems the J&J is the choice for my budget. The only thing I was wondering about was the tip. If I was going to get that cue is there one tip that is much better than the other? Is there a place that will send the cue with a different tip if I requested it and bought it from them?

Use a Wallabushka, they're cheap and readily available at pretty much any bar or pool hall. I am, however, certain that we'd all be happy to sell you something if you really want
