Cheap cameras for recording game play

There is a very cheap digital video recorder I'm thinking about getting, for $17 WITH an 8 gig memory card and a adjustable stand. Anyone use something really cheap to record a table? Did it turn out usable or does it look like a blob moving around a dark rectangle?

I have used my smartphone to record before and it comes out OK, but this thing is cheap enough that I can just toss it in my case and I like the adjustable stand.

I will be using this also to record my son's practice, tournaments and will have it with me to record at the Jr Nationals also.

Actually after going though some of these cameras I realized that without a screen, there is no way to frame the recording to make sure you are capturing everything you want. I'll just get a mount for my phone or bring a regular camera to use with a small tripod (which I already have).

I was looking for something I can just setup and leave for an hour without watching it to record a match, especially one I was not playing in.

My wife has odd timing of calling me on the cell phone in the middle of a tournament or league match, usually when I'm about to shoot hehe.
