Check out my new pool room!

Most places require garage floors to slope either to an internal drain or to the main exterior door; the latter is what builders usually do. Usually it's on the order of an inch per ten or twelve feet. How did you deal with that, or does Florida allow garages to have level floors?

Good luck finding an intelligent solution to that problem if it comes up, Gerry. I've been doing the same sort of thing. But I wouldn't advise doing what I did, which was just plunging ahead when I saw how the garage floor sloped to one corner. No problem, I'll just build the floor higher in that corner! Should have had somebody pour some self-leveling cement, I think. But I wanted to save dough so I did the best I could. Got it marginally level in places, but my GCI needed some serious shimming under the legs.

Not really sure about the floor covering yet Smittie. We've been throwing around different ideas, and I'm leaning towards a firm foam rubber material instead of carpet. I think it might be softer on the feet and back, and not need to be glued down. i'm going to put a humidistat in the room to check humidity levels. Anyone know what it should be? Since the air handler is right in the room, I can do all kinds of controling from there. 20 years of plumbing finally pays off!:)

Gerry
i keep my humidity about 40 to 45

Well, the floors about dead level. The drive way slopes away of course, and there is a 1/2 step out tha back of the garage, so I guess they did'nt need to have any pitch. There's the normal uneven areas from the guy who floated the floor, but that's to be expected. So again I'm lucky, and everything is going along just fine. Again, Thanks for the input everyone. I'm gonna have to have a party/Tournamnet when this is done!:) Hey Johnson City started in a back garage room did'nt it?....

Gerry

An uneven garage floor is not a big deal. Especially if your going with a table with leg levelers. Like a gold crown. But if you decide to get a table without leg levelers it is much better to go with carpet. It hides the adjustment better and is less likely to slide.

I see garages all the time that are sloped the wrong way. It's kind of funny.

Lucky man

Gerry you are a lucky man, If I ever get my pool room I am going to have to poor the foundation and built from scratch (lots of scratch).

Enjoy the process and good luck.

Well were just about done, except for the floor. Walls are a dove grey color and the trim is gloss white. the rooms clear except for the stuff in the corner going to the yard sale next week. As you can see my wife is still out there caulking and painting, I told her I had to come in and make a few phone calls!!:) Now I just have to finalize the table. Waldo's said they might have a GCIII for sale, so I'm about to call them to see what's up.I'll give you all an update on the table when I know anything. Thanks for coming along for the ride!

The room looks great man. Congrats!!! Cant wait to see it with the table!!!

The way the light is attached, will it swing around in a circle if you bump it with a cue (or your head)? I mean because it has the one point of attachment.

My pool room is just about done too. I have slanted ceilings to contend with, but they won't interfere with your stroke at all... just how far back you can walk away from the table without crouching. I'll have pictures of that soon.

Gerry, you move fast! Nice-looking work there. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the setup.

For comparison, and for chuckles, I was just trying to post a few pix of my much slower-going project (shots are from December) but I can't seem to get these scanned images down to a small-enough size to be accepted here, harrumph. PDF, jpeg ... ugh!

G-man,
awesome room my friend, now i`ll have somewhere to sleep if I ever find time to visit.

I turned my double car carport into a pool room about 3 months ago. Im kinda sorry its all done. I miss sitting out there thinking of ways to make things perfect. Not to mention the hundreds of trips to home depot buying things. I really enjoyed doing it and then showing it off. Yours really looks great. I can tell you did some planning also:)

ENJOY!

The new addition to the family

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Houseman, we got a spare bedroom for you, you know that!, but I'd probably find you on the table;) We took delivery at 12:30 yesterday, and after what seemed like a short time, we were rolling balls around by 8:30! We had the table company do the Simonis on the rails for us, and we did the rest. My only beef is 1 of the rails took a shot in shipping, not real bad, but you know how it is. Also there were NO DIRECTIONS!? so we called Boston tables and they said, "uh there are no directions, we suggest you get a professional to install!!!!" SCREW THAT, I was gonna get Waldo's to do it, but I got all impatient and HAD to get the project rolling. Sorry Jimmy.

The only thing I could have used is a bolt and nut schedule, but it was really quite easy. I was lucky enough to have done a dozen or so of these (Crowns) before at the Housemans room, so it went together very nicely.

I'm waiting on the Sardo rack, and the new cloth is playing fast, but a little "new Simonis like" you all know what I mean. The corner pockets are about an 1/8" over 2 ball width, so when the cloth breaks in, it should be a perfect practice table. The side pockets are surprisingly snug!

All in all, a GREAT 2 week project from start to finish. Here's some pics. Not sure how it looks on the pics, but there are no "short cue" shots anywhere, and the only thing my foot hits is the dryer a little bit, and it's days are numbered! I'm going to hit some balls, anyone wanna gimme 75 to 150?......:D

The table looks really nice, and your work is neat and fast.

Thanks Richard, My arm feels like lead! I played about 4 hours today until a thunderstorm rolled in and mudded up the table. I WILL be getting a dehumidifyer!......

Gerry

So how well is it constructed compared to a GC? It looks really nice. My GCIII is in a basement/garage with no dehumidifier but I really don't think I'm good enough to tell the difference, then again I've haven't played while its been raining out yet. I do plan to get a dehumidifier soon though. Summers in TN are really humid. Enjoy the table.

Yeah Baby...
