Check out the pocket size of my new pool table!

look like 4" pockets , very small , your going to be dangerous after practicing on that for a while :) or pulling your hair out :(

Lol, most of the time it is pulling my hair out, if you dont hit it just right it will rattle out!

What make/model of table is it? Did you buy it brand new or second hand? It is very unusual to buy a brand new table from almost any manufacturer and get pockets that tight by default.

You usually have to special order this from the manufacturer and many don't even offer any choice. Of course it could also be the way a particular dealer and/or table mechanic likes to set their tables up.

Lol, the funny thing about this is the installer set it up wrong so all the pockets are a little bit off... The table is DLT, heres the website www.dltbilliards.com . Its a cheaper model but its got nice cushions and rolls dang good, also it had Titan Championship felt on it. O and by the way we got it brand new.

We would complain but if you knew the story behind this company we delt with, you would crap your pants. Basically it took them half a year to get it here when they had it in stock all along!!! So we finally got the table and said we would try not to deal with them anymore.

So all in all, I guess you could say their mistakes will make me a better player...smaller pockets wise anyway.

Would have been a nice photo with a ruler placed across the pocket opening

You dont need a ruler, thats why I got the ball sitting there. Its 2.25" so do the math. The pocket about 4.25" , if you really want a picture with a ruler let me know and I will take it.

the pocket is small but the cut of the pocket is fairly straight which means they will be much more friendly.

It was merely a suggestion.

There is no math to do with a ball sitting in front of a pocket.

There is only a visual and a guess.

In your original post you asked if they were unusually small. The answer based on the information is ... perhaps, perhaps not.

I happen to agree.....a ruler would have been nice !!! And, made it easier to answer your question. Before I read the post I guessed the pockets to be approx. 4.25". Only a little tighter than most tables that have 4.5" pockets. I play on a table locally with pockets that are 3 7/8"....now, those are tight!!!!!!!

Have fun with it.

Yeah when your coming stright down the rail they are ok, but if you hit it to hard they are very unforgiving. I can't tell you how many shots I have missed because of the size, then I go to my grandparents house and I cant miss!!:D :D :D

3 7/8" is too small. Many professionals suggest practicing on a table with only moderately tight pockets, until you develop a "professional style". Really tight pockets can change the way you shoot, and sometimes not for the better.

All in all, I recommend practicing on pockets just as tight as the tightest you will usually compete on. I plan on competing on Diamond tables at whatever majors I might attend, so whatever size my Procut Diamond Pro/Am pockets are, is good enough for me.

I've owned it for about 2 months now, and haven't hit a ball on it! :D :D :D

So is 4.25" a good size or is it going to screw up my shooting?

Weird.....I replied to this thread, but I don't see it!!!!

Anyways, I don't recomend pockets under 4", but that table happens to be a tournament table, so I play on it for practice and tournaments.

My Gold Crown I will be set up by Ernesto Domiguez with 4" pockets and 860 Simonis. I have had many tables and I personally believe that this is the best set up for players who take the game seriously.

I saw your thread dont worry..

Anyway that is my dream table you just described! Gold Crown IV, 4" pockets, 860 Simonis, dang man you'll be set for life. I've played on a 9foot gold crown with tournament cloth and    it was great. What size is yours, 9foot?

Yes...4.25" pockets are just fine.

I like to shoot on tables with tight pockets, makes you more precise and then when you play on a table with big pockets, it almost seems too easy.

Keep in mind that the size of the table is a factor aslo.

Is your table a 4.5 x 9 ?? or a 4 x 8 ???

4" pockets on a 4.5 x 9 is a different animal than 4" pockets on a 4 x 8.

Russ...

I just bought the table. It is a Brunswick Gold Crown I, from the 1960's. It is a 4 1/2 x 9. I pick it up this Sat. I am going to paint it, chrome the corners, feet, etc... I will post up some pics when it is done. It will be a while though because I have alot of work to do to get the garage ready for it.

Here is a pic..
