Checking a cue's straightness

you guys got me with this clear coat causing a wobble. I don't get this at all. The clear coat is only a few thousands thick.

I have a buddy that bought a Espiritu about 10 - 12 years ago at SBE and within one year the shaft warped. We showed it to Russ at SBE the following year and he came up with all kinds of excuses being my buddys fault. He purchased another shaft from Russ and to this day it is kept in the same case and same enviorment. It is still dead straight,so I say bad shaft from Russ. I feel he should have replaced it in good faith. JMHO
There are two cuemakers I will not deal with Russ Espiritu because of this shaft deal & Dale Perry since he went ebay wild.

how long have you been building cues?

Only 2 years. I haven't seen any of my cues warp or even not roll straight. I have re tipped some of my cues and the shafts are no longer round and most have a little blurr when they are spinning in the lathe. They still roll straight.

My very first cue that I put the pin in 3 times to get it straight still rolls straight and hits nice. I built it in a week. It's ugly though. LOL

I don't like rolling the cue on a table. What I do to check straightness is hold the cue by the butt and rest the tip on the table or in the air, then while sighting down the length of the cue, I turn it and watch the tip to see if it stays straight.

Warped cues always look straight, to me, when I use this method.

The owner is still going to roll it. What will he/she see????
