Chicago pool happenings

When I was 18 my sister (16) and I did a landscaping job inside Cabrini Green. Just the two of us and a truck.

It was scary and people gathered around to watch us work but nobody tried anything.

We were lucky.

This was 1986.
That was about the height of the danger. Got lucky

It was STONEY Island, which means you were on the South Side, and the cop did you a big favor.

Like all cities, Chicago has safe and unsafe areas. I used to live in Cicero, back when it was still a mob town and very safe at all hours of the day or night. But, if you got on the wrong side of Cicero Avenue after dark, you were dead meat.

If you are worried about crime, there are online crime maps and gang maps, but best to ask the locals. Chicago is very neighborhoody.
Unless you were a business owner. Hate those scumbags getting glorified in movies, lowest of the low

How did RO do on this visit?
lol, he crushed everyone.
He was fascinated by the 3 Cushion players.

I filmed him at Tweeten, Chicago Billiard Cafe & Chris’s. His show producers were befuddled that I was everywhere😂

You feel unsafe in poor neighborhoods? None of those where you’re from?

I’ve been in plenty of bad neighborhoods. Did I feel unsafe, sometimes. I’ve also meet some very friendly people in those neighborhoods. I’ve got a scared to death story from one of my pool adventurers in Ft. Wayne. Same story, bad neighborhood with some very nice people and a few bad ones. I feel fortunate to have come out of that one unscathed. Here in New Orleans there’s been so many car jackings and crime in places here that people run red lights to reduce their exposure. Every city in the world has bad areas, it’s not limited to Chicago.

I believe he's saying the 2 roads are far apart and you weren't near where you were claiming to be
Possible but you would think he is smarter than that. So you reckon he thinks its not possible to have driven thru Chicago many times on many different paths? Or maybe he simply doesn't know that surface streets are city streets that are not the freeway/Interstate/expressway/highway. During racing season we end up going thru Chicago at least 8 times a season. 94, 294, 41 and other roads I forget. The worst stretch of road we have seen so far is 80/90 near Gary, it seems like at least 50% of the cars in the nation are on that stretch of road on Sunday afternoons/evenings.

Imagine how many might visit if not for Chicago crime constantly being in the news.
Imagine if they could report neighborhoods to stay out of due to high crime and not be called racist, and then report the neighborhoods that are safe.

Better yet, send in the National Guard and end the crime 🤷‍♂️

Oh well, common sense isn’t common.

I lived straight across the lake from Chicago and never went due to the crime

I absolutely hate going through there as much as DC

Fortunately Chicago government doesn't take kindly to guns so I believe gun laws are pretty strict there, apparently the laws are effective and nobody can get guns, especially perps. 🤣🤣

This website sort of does that. I check on it from time to time. Has various stats. Needless to say some neighborhoods have more homicides than others. I think the current stats are better than in recent years and going from memory the homicide clearance rate has improved. You can also look at the homicide numbers listed by mayor from back in the day.

The opinions in that website are theirs for anyone who doesn’t like the sarcasm and bad taste etc….

What do you mean "a mile away", are you suggesting I'm flying???

I could tell from I94 that I did not want to hang out at Cabrini Green back in the 90's.

I absolutely said that one. Yeah, the missing windows and the white what I'm assuming were bed sheets being used as curtains floating in the wind outside of the windows were all the clues I needed from I94 to know that I did noy want to be there. Plus its not like it didnt have a not so stellar reputation and everybody knew that landmark even all the way from the freeway.

Cabrini is behind the big white apartment building (and all the other buildings in between) - I hope you didn't burn any holes in them with your magnifying x-ray vision.
