I will be in Chicago August 24/25 to play some one pocket at Chris's Billiards and will check out Red Shoes too while I am there. Any Az'rs that see me, come by and say hello.

My first trip to Chicago and I will also try and see some of the sights. We had a lot of fun on the one pocket.org sight talking about which pizza joints to try. If I tried them all I would not be playing much pool, but will certainly try a couple.

No bullshit just make the game and get up and play, Thats how the action always was in the 60s 70s and 80s.

John you are 1 of the last few remaining gambling pool players that we have left from the good ole times!
 
best pizza ive had is nino's, they have a place in alsip, you can get it delivered to red shoes....its a little pricey, but its awesome :)

Hey JR, There is no snooker table at Red Shoes but there is one at Chris's, a 6 x12. I can't recall seeing anyone play golf on it but there are new owners and significant changes going on as we speak. There are great players at both places. Red Shoes & Chris's are the two best pool halls currently in the Chicago area. I may be able to meet you on the 24th but the 25th is my 34th anniversary and the wife takes precedence over all things under the sun on that day!

I always gambled a little and started taking these trips after I was widowed five years ago. I don't bet high by some standards, but I bet my own and it is plenty for a guy collecting S/S checks.

If I get by The Ghost in Chicago, I am going to try and hookup with Bill Stroud in Phoenix. Both are tough games, but if you wait around for the best of it you will not get to play much anymore. Even if I win in Chicago, it will just pay for the trip and a little smaller action. If I lose it will be a costly trip.

You can find games but most of them have one foot out the door when you start. I did ok the first couple of years I went to DCC but the action with other old guys dried up and I tried some tougher action and went off.

The best action pool room in No. CA, California Billiard Club, just closed down and is relocating. The changeover will take seven or eight months, so what little action we have is taking a big hit.

I miss the old days too. I started out playing snooker on a 5 x 10 about ten miles from downtown Los Angeles in the fifties, and there were dozens of places to go play within a thirty minute drive. Even into the eighties if you lost, the money stayed in the pool room and you usually had a chance to get it back.

I help promote a handicap one pocket league at several pool rooms in Northern CA. Hopefully when more people get into it and can figure out fair games, there will be more action.
