Chinese 8 ball final Appleton v Selby

I think Selby's second place finish for a guy who has not played pro pool in years was beyond ridiculous, then he flys out next night and wins the frickin German Masters
incredible

two of my favorite Selby matches ever are now losses, the Chinese 8 ball and his epic final in the worlds against Higgins a few years back (NOBODY on earth was gonna beat higgins that day but selby sure as hell gave him a run)

I didn't think Selby had been a pro pool player?

He is a pro pool player already won World 8 Ball championship in 2006 but concentrating more in playing snooker. 2014 world Snooker Champion beating Sullivan and just won German Masters Snooker. Money in snooker dwarfs those in pool.

As far as I'm aware he's not (nor has he ever been) a pro pool player in the true sense of the term. He did enter the 2006 worlds but I believe he was given a sponsor's invite, so it was a one off thing.

It makes his achievements in that event and this event even more remarkable, IMO.

Back in the day, there was a snooker season.
It was basically from September to beginning of May when the world championships finishes.
Mark was always a keen English pool player especially in snooker off season.
He was a fully registered player....He also played for his county on numerous occasions.

....He has also played in the World 9ball Championships.

Really? When?

I remember watching last few racks of this live. Selby was behind all the way until the final lap when he caught up. Amazing
If I am not mistaken, he missed 2 critical balls which cost him 2 racks. He could have won had he not missed those 2 balls- one was shot down the long rail into bottom left pocket and another was missed stripe into bottom right corner .
I am guessing that had Darren lost this final it would have been mega blow to him-
$100K blown + losing to the guy who beat him in 2006 E8B final+ never won 8 ball championship :D

yeah the whole "8 ball championship" is a bit of semantics

it's chinese 8 ball, not the typical WPA sanctioned type of world title which typically means little anyways

The hell with the playing, did you see what they were able to do with the table and the 3D model of the layout? That's way better than the lines we draw here for commentary. They basically rendered the table in 3D and were able to rotate it around to see if a ball went by.
