I see some Chinese 8-Ball being played on the world stage... does anyone in America play that game yet ?

Are there any Chinese 8-Ball tables in America ?

I have visited with some European Tournament Officials & they are trying to get the small cue ball rule changed, since all of their tournament tables have drop pockets.

All games are fun, this one has the attention of lots of people around the world. China is big on this, so is Australia & lots of Europe.

Any info out there or ideas ?
 
I have played this a few times in practices but didn't know it was an actual game. We always had fun and you can learn a lot from it.
 
Chinese 8-Ball isn't just a game, it is an entire new format. The game of 8-Ball is played on an 8-foot Snooker table with 2 inch diameter object balls & a 1 7/8 inch diameter Cue Ball...

The small cue ball & the rounded Snooker pockets make it a whole new way of playing 8-Ball

The major Chinese 8-Ball tournaments of late have been played on 9-foot tables with fairly tight pockets and rounded pocket jaws (like snooker tables). And they have used regular pool balls (2 1/4").

Is it just in the Chinese Tournaments

We use 2 1/4 diameter Pool Balls when we play GOLF on a 10 foot Snooker Table.

It gets "Vely Intalesting"

One of the best at Chinese 8-Ball is Gareth Potts. He won the Chinese 8-Ball Masters event in 2013 and 2014 and finished 3rd in 2015. Here he is in 2014 talking about the tables: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3Fs5M9Imw4. Note that he refers to the table as 9 x 5, but it is 9 x 4½ (playing surface 50" x 100").

Shortly after the 2015 Chinese 8-Ball Masters event in January (won by Yang Fan), the Chinese 8-Ball World Championship was held. The winner was Darren Appleton, with a prize of nearly $100,000.

I'm not aware of any events using these tables outside of China.

The equipment you're describing is english pool, not chinese 8-ball.
The only part you got wrong is the table size which is 7 foot.

All I know is that I HATE conventional 8-ball as pro level players turn this into snookered after the break or run out pool. This isn't that. You have to split the pockets on these tables and run outs happen but they are far from guaranteed. Much, much tougher to get out than conventional 9-ball.

I LIKE IT.
 
I have played in some similar events in Australia using 9 foot snooker tables with 2 inch OBs and CB. The snooker players used to be strong in these events compared to our regular 8-ball on 7' tables and the small 1 and 7/8" CB.

As AtLarge said, not aware of any other country playing the Chinese format.

It's a great test of pure potting accuracy but imho, the lack of CB movement makes the game a little bland. That said, I'd much rather watch this game played by the best than 'lucky break and safe' 9-ball and 10-ball, and US 8 ball is almost entirely a breaking competition.

English Pool tables can be 6 foot, 7 foot and even 8 foot.

Most admittedly are 7 foot, but you can occasionally find 8 foot ones!

Hi Dave.... so what size are the Balls in English 8-Ball & what size is the Cue Ball.

Is the Chinese standard on 9 foot tables with 2 1/4 Balls & Cue Ball is 2 1/4 too...?
