Choose low-end Falcon or Joss or Pechauer?

uni loc

the original uni loc only requires one and a half turns to be tight, see the smooth part of the pin.
the radial uni loc has a lot more threads, thus, more turns to make it tight.

I would recommend finding a straight, used Schon. As soon as you start playing with a new cue it will be used anyway.

happy pick

I think the JOS02 is the prettiest,
I'd get that one and shoot as much as possible.
I'm sure you'll be happy with any of these cues from great manufacturers.
IIRC falcon's are now made overseas. that's why I wouldn't recommend them.

I heard that Pechaurer grows his own wood too.

Grows their own wood. What do they do plant it along with the tomatoes. Maybe select their own would be more like it. However I would doubt a cue company has the processing equipment to take it from tree to cue making stock.

in most cases

I don't know about Pechauer but Bill Dominiak's main work load comes from
his logging company called cue stock. I know for sure he uses his own trees.

Before you buy a cue, I would consider the deflection factor. Joss cues, for example, have a High deflection rating. That might be ok for now but someday you may want to upgrade the cue with a low deflection shaft (like Predator).

That's what I did. I started out with a Joss cue and recently bought a Predator 314-2 shaft.

I agree here, I like Joss cues but their stock shafts I just can't play with. I have been playing with a Joss model JX 02 with a 314 shaft and a medium soft Kamui tip for about 6 months now and I love it. It's a nice cue 4 points some inlays in the butt sleve sorta plain but nice .Nice firm hit not too stiff but just right. I hadn't played with a cue with a ss joint for a while but I like it. I had been playing with a mottey sneaky with a phenolic joint but I put it up.:D

I just got a Joss and put a 314 on it and it hits a ton and is accurate...I love it....You don't have to play with the 13.25 mm shaft that comes with it you can ask for a 13.0 mm or a 12.75 mm if you wish....or even a 12.50mm....Joss gives a choice...
Just personal but I like the Joss over the others...

Thanks for all the comments. Greatly appreciated. I know there won't be any consensus among the cues; after all they are all good manufacturers.

I have only played with a McD before. I'm not against the wood-to-wood soft hit but I have yet to try other setup to say what I like and don't like. Therefore, I would like to hear different people comment on the hit of those cues.
Hello friend. You need to do two things. Go to a billiard store if you can. Find one. Pick them up. Swing them around. They should let you hit a few balls around. I personally didnt like the Mcdermott feel. They make great cues, just not my flavor. I won a higher end joss and was looking at the one you have up there. I hit a few. Its Solid. The Thunk!!! We all have are own idea of what feels great to shoot with. So I think go down and play. Youll get the greatest feedback ever.

Now I see it. I thought those were the ends that stuck inside the butt.

So which one did you choose?

Short story
I chose the Joss JOS02. Not very happy about it.

Long story
I chose the Joss JOS02 for its reputation on this forum. I am not very happy about it and here is why. I ordered a 19oz 13.25mm. It arrived and when I measured it, it was 19.4 oz and 13.03mm. So it doesn't stick to its spec. That extra 0.4 oz really bothers me. Later I learned that I liked a smaller tip size more.

Now I'm using my first-bought basic McDermott butt with a Z^2 shaft. I think 3/8x10 gives a more solid richer feel than 5/14x16 SS.
