I wish I could go, just to be there. I'd be looking all around for Chuck. I'm heading for the Philippines on the 24th, so I won't be able to make it.

Hello to the NorCal crowd! Have fun and throw one back for Chuck, pool's best friend on the West Coast.

I'm glad you posted this, John. I'm going to be in the area at that time and will be playing.

Hey 8ball;

Check in with me at HardTimes, first one is on me. BTW, I think the added will actually be $3000.00, thats unofficial.

I never met Chuck, but I love his pool hall, and appreciate everything he did for the game. It's obvious from everyone that knew him that he was a great guy. I will try to make it to the tournament. Thanks for posting the info. :)

Independent Event
Chuck Markulis Memorial Scheduled for September 27th at Hard Times Billiards (Sacramento)

On Saturday, September 27, 2008, Hard Times Billiards located at 5536 Garfield Avenue, Sacramento, California, will hold an event close to the hearts of not only the management and staff, but for patrons of the venue (not to mention those that Markulis impacted along the way in the pool community).

As stated on the HTB Myspace.com site here by Tony Torres, General Manager of Hard Times Billiards, Markulis passed away on June 26, 2008, due to complications from a digestive tract infection. He is survived by his only son Michael and wife Karen, and granddaughters Rachel and Sarah. Torres writes, ?he leaves a great void that will be irreplaceable in our establishment to employees and patrons alike as well as the many pool players that have met him that have been to our business here in Sacramento and Bellflower. He greeted everyone with a big smile, a handshake or hug the ..greek way.???.?

It is and was apparent that Chuck Markulis was a fantastic advocate for the sport of pool and that many will miss his presence in the community. He, as Torres commented today when asked about the event, was the publicity guy for the game of pool for not only Hard Times Billiards, but the surrounding area and beyond ? obviously reflecting his passion for the sport we all love so much.

The $2500+ added tournament will be a memorial to Chuck Markulis in the form of an open nine-ball, double elimination event, held in one-day. If more than sixty-four players are present, it will flow into Sunday as well. The races will be to six on the winner?s side, four on the one-loss side with World Standardized Rules. The entry is $50 with no green fees, 100% payout (25% of field minimum). Please ensure you are registered no later than 11 a.m. on Saturday as the player?s draw will take place at noon.

For more information on this event, contact the venue directly at (916) 332-8793 or stop into visit their website at www.hardtimesbilliards.com
