What cities have the best pool environments, have the most going pool on? My inquiry is aimed at identifying areas in which pool goes on 24/7 and the pool junkies are not just sitting across from each other, staring, and discussing what happened two weeks ago or what is expected next week. Back in the day, the afflicted persons I ran with did their best to continually occupy themselves with pool. Some, the retired and unemployed especially, were more successful than others, but achieving full occupation with pool required a great deal of travel and coordination. I feel like in years gone by there were certainly areas in the US which fit the bill, but I am uncertain as to what is available today. Any ideas?
 
I think it depends on which part of a location you live in. If you have two good pool venues within spitting distance then you have a very different pool experience from someone who has to spend an hour crossing a big city for a decent game or table.
 
Buffalo's is a great example of what a pool hall should be. We should all be so lucky as to have one in our neighborhood. If I lived in NOLA or Jefferson Parish, I would be in heaven, but it is just a little too far from the Miss. Gulf Coast to qualify as my "daily player". (Physically and psychologically, Chalmette and Slidell are just a little bit closer.)

My inquiry was aimed at a much broader area -- what I hoped my inquiry would disclose is a number of metro areas in which pool existed in a symbiotic environment involving any number of facilities. My instinct tells me that, historically, such scenes existed in New York and Chicago, as well as most other large cities, and I just wondered if such continued today.

If your talking 24/7 then Buffalo’s is the end of the story. However Chicago has Red Shoes and Chris’s. Granted I haven’t been everywhere but those three always have action. Griff’s is good and Phoenix has several rooms not to far from each other.
 
I really did not mean "24/7" to be taken literally . . . Around here, closing time has always been something like when everyone is ready to leave. (I never heard of "last call" until I went away to college.) But tell me this, two cats match up after midnight in a pool hall that closes at 2:00, or 4:00, a.m. and, come closing time, both players are still full of gamble and the bucks to match -- what happens?

Depends on who is in charge.
A normal person with a family at home out the door they go.
A degenerate house man maybe stays for the big tip.

A buddy was somewhere in the Mobile area a while back and they were having a $20/fee barbox tourn. Calcutta paid almost 14g's. Those boys down there will get it outta the mud. He ended up playing one of the local hero's and won like 5500. I know the name of the spot but i'm sworn to secrecy on penalty of death.;) Honey hole i guess.
 
Your speed matters a lot as to the number of people you can expect to gamble with.
In some cities APA is really big and $$ games not so much.
