CJ Wiley Runs 29 balls in 1P using TOI

I have a way that I practice 8 Ball that may be interesting to see, and it's very challenging. I play regular 8 Ball, however, I MUST carom into another ball (solid or stripe) on every shot to keep shooting.

This amplifies the need to be able to carom accurately and after practicing this for awhile you will see a vast improvement in your "8 Ball skills". I've only ran the table a few times doing this drill, try it and see, it's worth the time in improvement. 'The Game is the Teacher'

I like this idea. Just started playing 8 ball again, haven't really practiced much yet but last session I played 8 or 9 racks and ran out 6 ghost-style (break start with BIH), so not horrible. Will try some with caroms just to work on cue ball control, those occasional tight positions or poor pattern selection is what turns an easy rack into a nightmare...

I also learned another new way to practice and keep score. Break, take BIH and shoot, you get 1 point for each ball pocketed. If you run out, rack again but this time you must make a ball on the break and no BIH. Keep going until you miss. You can play 10 innings like this and keep score to chart improvement and work on running out multiple racks which not only works on your break and shot selection but increases pressure as you go.

There's a similar game on the snooker table that I saw Earl Strickland playing

My Son and I play 8 ball caroms quite a bit. It is 8 ball, rack the q ball at the head of the rack and break with a number ball. Choose either solids or stripes. To score you shoot a number ball at the q ball to carom the number ball into the pocket. Spot the q ball if it happens into a pocket.

It can be a learning adventure.

That is a great game to get the feel for caroms. There's a similar game on the snooker table that I saw Earl Strickland playing on You Tube. I don't know what they call it and I'm sure Earl doesn't plan on making it his "forte". ;) Play Well, 'The Game is the Teacher' www.cjwiley.com

I believe you are referring to Russian Pyramid. That game is amazing to watch at the highest levels.

Yes, it's good to impose pressure on yourself by keeping some kind of score. I do this playing straight pool and sometimes make it more difficult like I do with the 8 Ball drill I described in one of the last posts.

It's easy to get away with bad or improper playing with no pressure, under pressure everything changes and that's when using TOI is most important in my game. 'The Game is the Teacher' www.cjwiley.com
