Clean Chalk off Cue Tip before putting back in case?

I just bought 2 new cases and will probably return one so I wan't to keep them pristine.
So I'm cleaning the chalk off the cue tip before putting back in case.
I'm currently using a moist napkin but I've seen some players clean them on the carpet.
Any thoughts if my way will hurt the tips?

I think any moisture on a tip is a no-no.

Just get a piece of Saran wrap and a twist tie and make you a cue condom.

At the end of the night I point the tip side of cues against the carpet in the pool hall and rub the chalk away as I spin it and pull the cue towards me.

Been doing it like that for more years than I care to remember and have never had a single problem with it.

I have an original Instroke case and it's fine.
Never done anything whatsoever to that case.
No leather treatment, no oiling of locks, nothing to the interior, or any of that stuff. It's beat up as hell but it functions the same way it did in it's first day of ownership.

Won't this also trap moisture?

Can't trap anything that isn't there.

Where would the fuel for condensation come from?

I think it would be fine. Kinda ghetto, but it isn't a forever need or solution either.

Just pick a case and don't worry about it is another option.

We had a thread here a while ago and room owners expressed displeasure with the carpet wipers, as I recallll.

I really like keeping the inside of my case clean so I always wipe my tips before putting the cue away. Usually I grab an extra paper towel the first time I use the restroom and take it back to the table with me and save it just for that purpose. I also carry a small towel that I use to dry my hands, it has a logo on it and I use the back side near the log for tip wiping if I don't have another option handy, that way I know where th chalk is and can avoid it when drying my hands.

Is it OK if I come over to some of your houses and wipe my chalk on your carpet?

I don't care how much of a dump the place is, that's wrong.

Oh yea, it's just sooo much worse than all the hamburgers, french fries, beer, slimy dried soda, spit and piss that's already dried up in the carpet.

Just no comparison.........so wrong......:angel2:

Am I the only person who puts the shafts in their case with the tips upward?

I also put the cue in the case with the joint down and the butt up.

Bingo...I also take a paper towel to clean my tip. I have more respect for the hall owner than to put chalk in his carpet. Also, what if there is some kind of krud or other in the carpet? Might not be good for your tip?

I wipe down the shaft, get the chalk off the the tip and clean the ferrule. I just take care of my stuff, especially my tools.

The microfiber towels work well. Keep one in your case and wipe your shaft and tip off.

I'm currently using a **moist** napkin but I've seen some players clean them on the carpet.

Just get rid of that word moist and you will be fine. Wipe the excess chalk off with a napkin or paper towel and you will be fine. While spinning the cue chalk down is an old time tradition, I find it disrespectful. People put cigarettes out on the sidewalk but I wouldn't want them doing that on my kitchen floor.

Thanks for the replies and the ideas.
I like the idea of having a clean cue and clean case so I'll probably keep cleaning my tips after I make a selection.
Probably not on the carpet :)

Yep. Hit the nail on the head. WHo whats vomit or stale beer on their tip ;) Of course, if you use chalk that stays on the tip the best, you have no worries ;)

I just grab an extra cocktail napkin at the bar.

Originally I thought cleaning the tip off before putting it away was hokey. Then I tried it...and became a believer. Instead of having to clean my shaft every 2 weeks, I probably clean it every 2 months. It's amazing how much chalk built up in the case and clung to the shaft.
