Cleaning a stacked leather wrap.

I like to keep all the dust/dirt/chalk off the wrap, shaft and everything else. So.. I wipe everything down, usually with alcohol but the alcohol removes some of the dye in the wrap each time leaving a black residue on the rag.

I have lots of experience with no-wrap butts but none with stacked leather. What should I use for the daily maintance of the stacked leather wrap? I don't want to use a leather cleaner/conditioner as that leaves it tacky and I don't need that much cleaner on it. Just something to take off the hand "stuff" from that day. I chalk with the chalk in my grip hand so that does tend to get a little on the handle.

I've been using Brillianize, a plastic/plexiglass/etc/etc cleaner & polish on the balls lately and with great success. I'm tempted to try this on the stacked leather. I like a no-wrap feel and this might make the stacked leather even more like no-wrap.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Jim

I use ArmorAll gel. It cleans and conditions the leather. If the stack leather starts to look dull I'll use a leather burnishing liquid after I clean it. I know some people also use Lemon Pledge.

Just a suggestion...from showing a car that had leather interior. Lots of fancy products out there, but I had the best results from old fashioned "saddle soap" I picked up in a farm store. Gentle cleaning without harming the dye. (edit) my cues are linen wrap, so if you try this, you'd be experimenting. But really, I see nothing in saddle soap that would hurt a leather wrap of any kind. Certainly less harmful than alcohol, which I don't see as good on leather.

I have had 4 or more cues with a stack leather wrap. There are more pluses than minuses. However, if you are expecting the wrap to keep it's "good as new" look.... that ain't gonna happen.

Leather was a "living organ", so it is a cellular entity. Your skin oil is going to modify the color in time. Good maintenance will keep the "new look" a long time. Patina will always give something a good used appearance.

Good Luck...

What is your definition of "good maintenance"?

So far I"ve been wiping with a slightly damp rag once about very 12 hrs of play. Wiping with a cloth slightly damp with alcohol about once very 30 hrs of play and wiping it down with a microfiber suede cloth, rubbing vigorously about 25 times every day. It's working pretty well.

I tried putting cue wax on it but didn't like the feel. I tried leather polish but didn't like the feel.

Tiger Products

Check with Tiger Products in Burbank, CA. They invented the stack leather wrap.

Jim go to Tandy Leather, they have a number of products for cleaning any type of leather. To list a few, they have dyes, cleaners, sealers, and even a Leather finish. I have been using their products for two or three years with no problems at all, if there isn't one near you they are listed on line.

Hope this helps

Go to Tiger Products and they have MASTER Quick Shine in a spray can....The older gentleman in Vegas who works for Tiger and has been doing stack leather for 40 years told me this is what he uses. I got some and it brings back the shine.....Makes it smooth...I like it....

Water and Stain Shield

I checked with Tiger Products also. They have a product called Water and Stain Shield which they produce and sell; I bought some a few years ago when I had a cue with their stacked leather wrap. I know what it's called because I have half a can left!

Thanks everyone for all the ideas. I"ve been into show cars for several years and have done amatuer leather crafting off and on for several years so I have, or am aware of almost all the cleaning products for leather that are out there.

This one is something that may be what I want. Sounds like a cleaner/polish made for leather. (The Brillianize, made to clean/polish acrylic and such, didn't work so good.)

I"ll go to Tiger and get some.. give it a try.

This sounds like what I've been wanting! :groucho:  .... but

Went to their site and couldn't find this product. I emailed them and will wait for a response Monday.

Thanks for the information.
