Cleaning gold crown 3 corner pockets

GC castings

I'm a little late to the party, but unless I'm mistaken, isn't the copper color
anodized to the aluminum?... so if you polished them, you'd go through the anodizing into the aluminum. Like these:

I do like the powder coating idea.. very durable. I see it on custom cars and cycles.

Just curious - what type of shop did you find to do it for this price? I just got quoted $200 - do you think I would be better off going to an auto body shop (that quote was from a powder coating specialty shop)?

You need to find a bigger powder coating company that does a lot more powder coating projects, those prices are for the inconvenience of doing the work you want done.

Thanks, makes sense. I don't think there are any larger operations in my neck of the woods.

Looks like it may be difficult for me to take them off and get them back on by myself anyways. I am going to remove the pocket liners and clean up the tops as best I can with a palm sander and will look at powder coating again when I get the rails done and they will be off anyways.

You have to take the rails off and disassemble ....it's pretty simple once you turn the top
upside down.

Thanks for the info. Just noticed this (didn't get a notification for some reason). I think I would need to see a video of it done to be confident I could get it back together without messing up something (cushion angles, etc).

What a great way to overcome an obvious manufacturing defect or cheap process.

Good Luck...

You can get good results with Rustoleum, but best to completely sand the castings down to virgin metal.

I tried the spray can with mixed results. The brush on version works better. It gets more "fish eyes". Test on scrap metal to get the hang, before attempting the finish coat on the pocket castings.
