Cloth BURN marks G10 and/or Phenolic.

Just as bad for me is the small holes in the cloth caused by phenolic tips on jump cues. It can tear up a nice table, and good cloth ain't cheap.

These marks can be made with any tip when it slide across the felt during the break. IMHO this has to do more with bad technique than G10/phenolic.

I agree that any tip can make similar marks, but believe there was an earlier post that stated the breaker had a flat g-10 tip (think edges). That is f'd up and I wouldn't let him use it on my table(s).

I have had 2 X-breakers and they do not come with a flat edge tip ... none the less though it has more of a tip then most break cues. I personally in all my years never seen anything like these marks until I bought my X-breaker.... It is the only break cue that has done anything remotely to this.

Table #5 in the tournament room at Hard Times Billiards Sacramento

Is this your personaly table or does someone else play on it? More infor would help. I break with a phenolic tip and etc and I break them decent, and I never leave marks like that on the table.

I've seen these marks a few times prior to the tables being recovered.

Sunday's 9 ball tournament had 62 players and only a very few had these phenolic G10 tipped break cues.

I know who made those marks (more than one player).
We use 'break cloth' on all our tables and this practice has been very effective.

I used a break cloth to see if I could rub these marks off. At first it seemed to work very well, but then the burn marks resurfaced. I used a damp cloth and again it seemed to work, but they came back.

I fear I will come in and see a rip 6 inches to a foot long one day. I am not against these phenolic G10 break cues, but I am against table damage.

Maybe lessons are a cure?

sigh

This really hurst to see- especially since that new cloth hasn't even been on there a week yet. Ouch. Sickness turns to irritation.

I was there Monday night- L and I took tables 4 and 3 respectively while 5 sat open for hours. I didn't see any marks on 5 then but couldn't swear by it. However, I'm getting suspicious the marks might have been there already, since 5 wasn't played on by any regulars from 5.30 until bangers got on there when we left around 10.30.

Last thought: I have noticed there are a few players, esp on Tuesdays, who seem to think that making a huge show of breaking and ending with a pronounced pause with their cue bent into an arc against the cloth is intimidating. I might be looking at the cue- benders and seeing if they are also cue- draggers.

I would post a video of how easy it is to make those marks with an x-breaker g-10 but I sold mine because of the marks it was making every where I went.

I have been breaking with several other sticks for a year now and have never seen a white mark since using the same exact break form.

I took the pics Sunday evening. And, as I mentioned, I did take a break pad cloth and did rub most of the scrapes, burns or marks away, but upon further investigation, you could still see the marks.

If you dont like these marks dont have David G or Brandon schuff or Shane Van Boeing or a laundry list of other pro players who always break 9 ball like this. Ever seen the pics of imonen or van boeing breaking. There cue is always layed against the table and they DO create these marks. It is a sight of beauty for those that can control it but a death wish for those who cant. I apologize for my rough outlook but in my opinion it is the room owners responsability to keep cloth new and allowing the players to use it to there full abilitys. If this means higher prices then so be it.

Just my .02 cents.
