Cloth selection - Price vs Quality - Best option - Opinion wantedd

I hope I've posted this in the proper forum area, if not please do put where it belongs and I apologize in advance. Previously, I had posted about getting new rails and felt put on my table. I decided to get the Penguin rails like a few mentioned. I'm now ready to re-felt the entire table. Originally, I was very limited to the quality of worsted table felt / cloth I put on due to financial restrictions. Well through the time lapse from purchasing the new rails till the present, I've been able to open up the options a tiny bit. Here are the options I've found that I'm able to financially able to afford at the present time. Please look at all these options and tell me your thoughts on what you feel will be the best option for me to select and purchase to re felt my table.

Thanks for your help and opinions on this request. It's a 7' Dynamo table

1.) Predator Arcadia Select - Rails and Bed cloth precut along with a sleeve of Predator chalk $200
2.) Gorina Granito Basalt - Rails and Bed precut - $168
3.) CPBA Rails and Bed precut - $188
4.) Championship Tour Edition - Rails and Bed precut - $214
5.) Championship Pro Am - Rails and Bed precut - $191.50

Thanks in advance for any opinion or recommendations you may be able to give me in helping me select the best option for my table. Its very much appreciated.

There's no such thing as "worsted felt".

In terms of cloth, I'm bias toward Simonis and from what I've heard, Gorina Granito is close so that would be my choice. I've played on the Championship selections and it too fast, IMO.

I just installed Championship Tour Edition for our Senior Center. Plays great, moderately fast, installation was easy since it has a higher nylon content and stretched really easily. When looking at the options we rejected your number 5, since it seemed to be neither here nor there, and had a very limited color selection. Predator also went out since we didn't want to have their name prominently displayed forever.

One thing we noticed on the Tour Edition is that the dyeing left a noticeable color crease, as though the dye ran or changed at the fold points of the cloth. Most people don't notice that . I am hoping it fades or blends in over time.

Looks like you have a group of pretty good ones to choose from. It's not like it is forever though--these aren't so expensive on a 7 footer that you can't change it out if you are really unhappy.

The penguin rails can be had already covered and with the bed cloth. Penguin does an excellent job covering the rails ,no folds at the pockets . I don’t know however what cloth options are available in their package deal. Mine was 860 HR .

If you also play in league, you may want to consider the cloth used on the league tables. It can be very different from the brands you've listed.

Great point!

Cloth selection might be the most important thing .

There is

100% wool
80% wool 20 % nylon = 860
70% wool 30 % nylon = 760

The friction coefficient is very different for all 3. Plus the speed is different as well.

I personally hate going back and forth on different types of cloth!

It messes with your head and confidence when you know that you hit it good and it comes up short or long because the cloth is different....

Good point from Bob, as always. Perhaps one of the most common good cloths used in pool halls is the Championship Mercury Ultra. Several users have made a good case that the Valley Teflon is the same thing with a teflon coating for stain resistance, and is only a few bucks more. Both are less expensive and fairly fast compared to your listed options.

Great point and exactly what happened with me. I bought a new table and just took the cloth that the "table comes with". Then I joined league and found myself playing on 860 during league but much slower table at home. It made a huge difference. I ended up recovering my 6-month old table at home with 860. Best choice I've made on this table so far.

no folds at the pockets
Unless your cloth is REALLY stretchy, this puts too much stress on the point of the side pocket and can also end up with premature wearing at the sides. While it might look nice, it's generally not a good idea.

I’ve heard that before, I actually only know of one mechanic that did no folds. He said he could only do it on a bar box?

860 is 90/10.

I personally do not like real fast worsted on a barbox. 860 would be the fastest i'd even consider. ANDY 600 is a very good not-too-fast worsted also. I like Championship Mercury Ultra on little tables. A woolen that plays closer to worsted. BTW, Gorina and CPBA make very good cloth for the $. Just too fast for small tables.

I'm just getting back into shooting pool heavily again. Like I said in a previous post I used to shoot in a pool league locally but haven't for nearly 13 years now probably. I'm gonna be getting back into that again but want to be able to practice, practice, practice at my place for hours a day every day I decide I want to shoot. Thats why I put new rails on and am now replacing the felt on my table. The old cloth is what came on the table when we bought it back in the mid 80's. What felt is here there or anywhere else doesn't really matter to me as shooting pool is kind of like when I raced go karts on the National Series. It didn't matter what I run on weekly, I needed to be able to adapt to whatever racing surface was presented to us any given night. With pool, eventually, I'd like to be able to get Simonis but right now that's just not feasible I shouldn't say feasible I'm just not gonna put that much money out right now as it wouldn't be a good idea for me financially right now. Even the $214 wouldn't have been smart for me, that's why I'm pretty set on not getting the Championship. I want to get something as close to Simonis as possible at a price I can afford right now. Shoot on my table at home and be able to go table to table adapting to the surface that presents itself at that said time. Thank you to every one of you that replied to this post, from talking to several people on here, as well as off the forum I think I'm gonna go with the #2 Gorina Granito Basalt option. It seems to be the closest match to Simonis I can afford right now. So, I'll try it if I don't like it Ill then just splurge and spend the money to get the Simonis

You gotta remember you're talking about a barbox. Real fast cloth on one can be like playing pinball.

I had Granito Basalt on my 7’ table for years. Loved it.
