Could someone tell me the minumum functional speed of spindle with a .032 mill. I have a 4 head cnc machine build by Blud. The spindles turn about 20K rpms if that. Am I limited to the size of mill I use or can I use any mill and just control the rate of travel? I dont mind waiting longer to cut a pocket out if I can be successful. Ive seen some 50 and 60k spindles that can use alot smaller cutter and have alot less breakage but you talkin some major bucks. I just want to know what my limits are without breaking some expensive mills. Thanks for any help.

Mark, again, run the feed rate to what material your cutting. I run my spindle at 50,000 rpm, for all materials.. Your machine is a fixed spindle speed.. Just adjust your feed rate accordingly, so it cuts clean, and you save on breaking end-mills. Many differant ideas, from lots of guys here, but you be the judge of what feed rate you need. Trail and error, is the best way to fix your problem. Before I went to CNC, I had a pan-o-mill that only turned 17,000 rmp's. Never had any trouble, cutting material with the rpm's, only trouble was, neck hurt, back hurt, ass went to sleep, straining on the eyes, and didn't get much done in a long day...with the machnical pan-o-mill.......

Im really not sure what kind of spindles they are. Blud would know. There are 4 of them and they are all driven by a large baldor motor off about a 10 inch pulley. Seem like they get hot after awhile but maybe thats the nature of the spindle. I think Mike Sigel has a similar one in his shop and I spoke to Bill Dominiak and I believe he has one also. Wish I could just drive one spindle. I dont need all four going. Makes quite a cloud of dust when you fire it up though. Strap yourseld in.
