I had the opportunity to shoot with a Cognoscenti cue last night and it was sick. Such a firm hit with so much feel, I have to have one.

Does any other cuemaker use this pin? Does anyone here have one of these cues that will share their opinion on the drawbacks/benefits of a glass pin?

Never mind, this topic has been covered sufficiently in other posts. I should have looked first...

Look up indyq.com call up and talk to Roy tell him Kyle from wisconsin sent you he will be able to help you out with this

Why is it the pin that gave it such a stiff hit. I though he used them to keep the weight down. Far as I know with all the hoopla about pins Ive yet to find one that did anything but hold the cue together. Its his tapper and the woods that give it a stiff hit. Thats why he gets 2k for a plain jane.

From what I've researched, there is some truth to this statement, but it's a little more than that. Joe Gold cues used to have an incredibly inflated demand because the Japanese market was buying up all the supply for a few years. (hence the inflated price)

Yes, most of the "hit" is determined by the shaft, but there is a transference of energy between the shaft and the forearm, and the joint/pin does play a role in that. Depending on who you believe, the extent of the impact the material in the joint/pin has varying degrees of impact on the "hit/feel" but it does play a role. IMO the firmness of a Joe Gold hit with the feedback that his joint provides is the right "hit" for me at this point in my game. (plus his craftsmanship is just gorgeous)

I've been shooting with a Ray Schuler circa '96 for the past 12 years and it is time for me to move to a harder tip and firmer hit, but I don't want to sacrifice the feel/feedback or low deflection. A Cognoscenti will be my next cue as soon as I can find one at a price I'm comfortable with; not because of the name, but because it felt great when picked it up, and I didn't want to put it down.

I use a Black G-10 Radial Pin. My prices are less than 1/2 of Gold's. My cues hit 100% as good or some will admit better. I love the G-10 feel.....:)

On the contrary, what I've heard was that Joe hasn't increased the prices in his cues. Their prices have been the same for 10years plus. The G-10 gives a more natural feel in the hit as opposed to metal pins. The reason for all the different kinds of pins was to recreate the feel and resonance of the house cue (the original players cue). The G-10 is the closest to that desired effect. Have you considered calling Joe directly or visiting the shop?

i had a black pin plain jane with fancy rings and it was agruably the best hitting cue i had ever played with!

Last I checked, a plain jane was $1,100 standard rings/linen wrap/one shaft. Best move I made twice.

I doubt your cues could even come close to the feel of a Cog. And I've been in the pool room when you decided to bash his work. Hence why I'd NEVER look at your cues let alone buy one. Keep bashing other people's work, it's getting you exactly where you want to be

I got my Cog! it's got 5 ivory diamonds in the butt and it comes with 2 shafts. It's in the mail, I'll get it thurs/fri. 925.00

I'm pretty psyched. The dude said 95% condition, so we'll see.

Richard Chudy uses a G-10 pin. Black or Off White. I own two, some of the best hitting cues I have ever owned.

is the Cog pin 7/16 instead of 3/8?

i always have liked the way they play.well worth $1100.
