HI,
Besides the 30 stitches of silver in the rings, does joe gold sign his cues or place any other identification mark(s) in them? I am not sure if my observation is right, but, it seems that the cognoscentis I have seen had no marks in it (except for the one with a metal pin) Thanx again.

Most of his cues are unmarked, I think a very unwise thing in this day and age. The designs and ringwork are pretty easy to identify and so is the the plastic joint pin, used on most of his cues.

I have had several and all have been unmarked with a signature besides his silver ringwork which is a style of his own. Of couse as Tate said, his pin is quite unique to my knowledge. Fabulous cues though...

The pin has no weight to it at all it call a g10 pin. And it strong as hell .when i first saw it, it bug me out He took a Hi end cue off the table and stabed it down in a board ("pin first") on the table .I was told that you can destroy the cue be-4 u snap the pin.. And also give to a super tight fit.Great cue i hit some ball with one a long time back and it played good ,But it was a little pricey for me,,,But if u like a stiff hit u'll love that cue..

Bob owns several Cognoscenti's that are unsigned. I would call Joey direct at 773-348-7154 for all the answers.

What is the advantage of the plastic pin - lighter?
Besides weight and looks, nothing imo.
The G10 epoxy is a glass based micarta.
It's still not as strong as titanium or anodized aircraft grade aluminum.
It looks cool though.

it's a glass epoxy resin-type pin, and no one that i know uses it. and unless he's changed lately, the phenolic collars have a tighter weave than everyone else's phenolic . he was also using a different type of "plastic" for his ferrules, but i don't know how to readilly identify them.

the pin and the phenolic collars are quick to spot.

cognoscenti vs ck

I noticed that Chester Krick of CK cues is also using G-10 pin like Cognoscenti's....is there a big differnce between the two pins? I am glad that CK cues are signed and, looks like, uses a different ring pattern than the cogs or I wont be able to tell the difference

CK's cues are longer than Cog's.

FWIW I had a cuemaker who was doing some work on a Cognoscenti shaft tell me one purpose of the G10 pin was to improve the flex at the joint without sacrificing strength or adding more weight than the wood that was bored out to insert the pin. This made the cue feel more like a one-piece cue.
