Surely this will once again drive his prices up,and making his older, plainer cues even harder to find. Tommy D.

a little joke I have been sharing with people during cuetable demos:

" I used to have a beautiful southwest 330-96. It was on the early drafts of cuetable until I went broke and sold it to Joe. That explains about the cognoscenti on the table now..."

I for one think the cogs are good hitting cues. :)

I Saw This Coming...

I actually just got a plain-jane Cog the other month. I believe it is one of the last ones to come out of his current shop as Joe was talking about packing up and moving South. He also refinished my fancier Cog at the same time.

Joe Gold mentioned that he wanted to move South so he could ride his motorcycle more and get out of the cold climate. I feel lucky to have a couple of his cues because they play so beautifully. As far as everything I heard from Joe, this rumor is fact.

Maybe cuemaking is more profitable than most of us know:confused: Year long vacations must be nice. :) Although I think Joe had a successful kitchen or cabinetry business at some point so maybe he's still doing that.

He must have made his fortune at the cabinetry bussiness as not many cue makers are bragging about making a lot of money. Sell a lot of cues. Just don't make a lot of money. Butterflycues

I think its safe to bet that Joe Gold did NOT make a fortune in cuemaking. As well, why is it that people seem to actually care about Cogs and their return to the US market (now that he is free from his ties with Lucky)? I always thought of Cogs as unattractive and overpriced.

Joe had rented his space for the workshop for the past zillion years. The landlord sold the building and it was was being turned into something else, so Joe had to move out.

He is presently looking for another place for his shop. I have personally been helping him do so. I am a close personal friend of Joe's, and I happen to know that regardless of where he moves, his prices will not be inflated as they were when Lucky had dealings with him.

PLEASE DON'T ASSUME anything Tommy about his prices or the availability of them. This thread really pisses me off! I hate when people ASSUME.

In addition, regarding the INdyQ site, before even purchasing a Cog from them, I would call Joey FIRST!
If you want a COGNOSCENTI, I can always get you what you want.

Sort of on that note...

I have two Cogs and I went directly to Joe for both of them. I highly recommend the direct-to-maker process for new cues. I wouldn't think of going through a retailer, or cue merchant.

My opinion too,

I am not a big fan either. They all look the same to me with that same damn CNC pattern. They may pay great, but I couldnt get past the EXACT same pattern.

Maybe he only has one model. (That was joke)
