I just ordered a Coker cue. Anyone play with one now or ever play with a Coker??? What do you think... Hit, craftmanship, etc......

i have played with a coker cue for the last 3 years and i think it's one of the most consistant hits out there. my new 2 cue set should be arriving in 3 weeks. but you will love the coker.

I've always played with my McDermott's....until I bought a coker a couple months ago, and love it.

I just put my order in for one a little while ago, too. I just can't wait to get it. I'll be sure to post pics when I get it. The Coker family seems to be very friendly and easy to deal with. The prices are good and the cues seem to be targeted towards players and not so much collectors. NINEBALLART what are the specs of your cue? How you like it?

I have a nice older Coker. What's your best game?
I like it much better for 8 ball than 1 hole.

IMO Coker is making too many cues for them to ever be collectable. This will hurt the value of the cue. However, I'd say it's a great deal on a player cue with a personality, if you intend to treat it like a production cue.

I am going to get one .... sometime

If I can stumble on a steal of deal I will get one. I know that they dealers and most collectors loathe them and DP cues.

I usuallly get a little higher end cues myself but I tend to like some of the looks of their cues so I will try one.

My only advise is, while some will say it doesnt matter what the resell is but how they play. I like to be able to turn it if I want to do something else without having to take a hit.

I Didn't Have To Wait For Mine Because I Bought It Thru A Dealer...paul's Cues.....i Talked To Coker And They Said It Is A 4 Month Wait. My Friend Ordered One From Coker And Waited 4 Months For His. So I Bought New Thru A Dealer. It Is Mexican Cocobolo...irish Linen Wrap, Black With Green Specs.... 2 Shafts...triangle Tips....1 Shaft Weighs 3.6 Oz And The Other 4.0 Oz....the Cue Weighs 19.25 Oz And 19.6 Oz With The Other. I Haven't Gotten It Yet, It Will Be Here Today Or Tomorrow.....
I Have Seen 4 Or 5 Cokers Just In The League I Play In, And They All Love Their Cokers And I Think The Craftsmanship Is Superb....nice Looking Cues. And Everyone Likes The Hit....can't Wait....

Sounds like it's gonna be a nice cue. I can't wait to get mine either. Mine is gonna be a little more plain. A curly purpleheart forearm with a curly maple handle with some nice coker style ringwork. It's gonna hit pretty sweet. Good thing I have my Murrell to keep me company before my Coker is complete. :)

I love my coker, check out the pics in my signature. I think all you will agree its like no other coker youve seen, or that has been made. The ringwork is very distinct.

Before that i had another coker, that played magnificent. After making the switch from predator to coker, my cueball control went up tenfold. The feedback provided by the 3/8x10 joint was far superior than the uniloc, and i could judge my speed control, and accuracy much better.

At first, when you get your new coker, it will seem like its hard to draw the cueball a great distance, but thats because you have to get used to it. After you get used to the balance point, and deflection, your game will increase dramatically.

Tom and Michi are very understanding, and are willing to help everyone out. My friend recently bought a new coker, also from Paul (speedy i believe) and the wrap came loose on it. My friend also accidentally put a big chip in the butt. He called coker, and they told him to mail it in, and i figured it would be almost 3 months to get it back, but they rewrapped the cue and also fixed the chip in the butt for no charge! And had it back to him in less than 2 weeks!! Now thats dedication to the quality of their cues.

COKER cue I think is one of the most under rated cue in the market. They play very-very well, at least on mine. I love my Coker.

I love the look of the Coker, Reminds me of a Southwest minus the buttcap multiple wood and rings. I like nice ringwork and point/veneer/spliced points combinations.

My only advice is, and it may be too late since its ordered, is to hit with a Coker cue with similar woods to that you are going to purchase. Before I had my local maker custom cue made I went to Billiards 'N' Bagels in Greasham, OR to try some out. He carried 6 Cokers in stock at that time. Jim lets you hit with all the custom cues if you are serious in the purchase. I tried all 6 Cokers and there were three different hits of the cues depending on what wood it was made out of. Ebony played different than the Bacote one, which were in turn different than the cocobolo. Maybe it was just the shafts that were different. I ended up not buying one that day cause the one that I loved the hit on had the worst color design of all of em. I know it shouldn't be about the looks, but the feel. However later that day I ran into my local cuemaker and had him build me a cue and I couldn't be happier. I still love the designs and down the road may purchase one for the heck of it.

Love your tuxeco Coker. That is a beauty..nice....Real nice....
I had a Olivier I sold last year that I had made and it sounds like the Coker you are having made with the Purpleheart...I love Maple and Purpleheart together...Sounds like it will be nice because I loved the looks of mine with that combo....
You guys are making me anxious to get mine. Will be here tomorrow..I hope...

Switching from Stainless?

If I were to get a Coker, would I be thrown off because I am used to a stainless steel joint? I do like the cue that I have, but have heard great things about Coker cues.....

i havent played with one, but i love there design. its the only cuemaker till now that really makes alot of cue's that have the looks i like. i dont own one, but i might one day, more surely after reading all the + posts here.

Yeah, I've heard only good things about them. I live in Sacramento, so I see many of their cues around here. I know of many people that have bought and loved their cues so much that they put in the order for a couple more if they have the funds that is. Though I cannot be completely aware of how the hit of my cue is going to turn out, I know that it's gonna be as solid and well-built as any quality cuemaker out there. BTW NINEBALLART how was the hit of the olivier you had with that wood combo? I'm thinking mine is gonna hit pretty darn sweet. Just a side note, not only is it purpleheart, but "Curly" purpleheart.:D .....well hopefully it's as curly as I'm hoping.

so you are the one getting the curly purpleheart. michi told me about that piece today and said it was outstanding. i'll be posting pictures of some of the cokers i've had later.

Michi's a snitch! HAHA j/king. Yup, I guess imma be that lucky guy that's getting that nice piece of wood. Isn't it just great talking to Michi, she's just such a great person to work with. The only problem is that it's impossible to end a conversation with her, it's just so interesting that you don't want to stop. Is it just me or is it kind of harder to strike a conversation with Tom? :p Well I guess he's just a man of few words that can build one hell of a cue.:)

I'm sure it would take a little while to get used to if you were to switch, but there are a couple of things that could lessen the transition time. Assuming that your SS jointed cue is more forward balanced, you could get a Coker that has a balance point similiar your previous cue (btw Coker's are already forward balanced.....off my head I believe Tom said he likes to get the balance point around 18" something). I believe the balance could be remedied by either the selection of specific wood combo (i.e. heavier wood in forearm and lighter wood for the handle) or by the use of a weight bolt. Or maybe even better yet, you might be able to convince Tom to make you a cue with a SS joint. IMO though I like the hit of the phenolic joint, it just seems to give me more feedback in the backhand.
