Colorado Open Sept 13-25 2024

Overall this effort seems like more style than substance with a bunch of lower level pros pillow fighting on bar tables with a hokey rule set, but you have to acknowledge UP is pumping out sharp and professional looking content.

The old school PPV streamers have no chance against this.
Nice to see some acknowledgement of the good job the people running Ultimate Pool have done. They've now done this for a few years over in the UK and I'm glad to see their efforts moving in a good direction over here.

And I say that because you guys and gals constantly bitching and moaning about the rules and size of the table being played on....well whatever. I'll keep enjoying the show.

It's unfortunate that someone with his talent hasn't been seen for years on any stage grander than a state bar table open.
So the guy doesn't like travelling, why is that such a big deal? The 9 foot pro game has moved on without him and it doesn't seem to bother him one bit.

harsh judgement but not without merit. you're right it's not the top pros, but it's not really a pro event. bergman kinda gives a hint on how svb or fedor would fare in this format. although it would be fun to watch kaci with a 15 second shot clock, it probably wouldn't be fun in the long run.

my perspective is more that it's a fun variance with the ultra short shot clock, and a stage for new young players and strong local players (who may not afford to travel to MR or predator events) to get some exposure.

I think their business model is to use these events to promote their local leagues and supplement their U.K. content for that customer base.

But the KC open was by far the best run tournament I’ve ever seen and I would happily pay to play in another.

Can that good organization be transferred to local TDs/LOs? I don't think the content alone can be worth the price of producing it.

Good question. I might join the local league and find out. I was surprised at the investment they are making but apparently they are successful in the U.K.

Are these "International 8-Ball Rules" used anywhere outside of the UK and Ultimate Pool tournaments/leagues? I have never seen, outside of the UK, the English 8 ball tables with the red/yellow balls, cue ball smaller than the object balls, snooker pockets etc...

I find it cumbersome to follow without brackets. They repeatedly refer to their live scoring page as brackets, they are nothing close to brackets.

A $100K payout on their yearly league championship, with the caveat that enough teams compete. Good luck with that.

The post reads "Colorado Open Sept 13-25 2024" Is this going on for another ten day's?
I popped in yesterday I didn't see many people I recognized and with no brackets to follow I got kind of bored. I think some retail space would have been a nice addition as well. I always like checking out cues and cases gizmo's and gadgets at larger events.
Even though it's not exactly my cup of tea, It was very cool to see a pool event in this part of the country again. Not many large events are staged around here so this was very welcomed.

Yes and many of these pro tournaments coincide with the launch of the local league. The pitch for leagues is that the league nights are supposed to go faster.
The league in my area is owned by the owner of the room, who only allows 1 table per match instead of the usual 2 tables that all other leagues get. This makes it so people are forced to stay until 10 or 10:30 pm and spend money on food/drinks. It’s good to be the king I suppose.

One table per match has been the standard in every league I have ever played. That's over 40 years, 3 states and 8 cities. A 10:00 or 10:30 finish time is pretty reasonable I would say. Just my experience and opinion.
