Billy - COULD - be good!

Billy is always saying - "He will attempt to re-position the cue ball here".
WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!
Why wouldn't he just say "He's gonna try to get the cue ball here"!
And then go on to explain why.

As far as the most formally educated players that can properly use the english language, it would HAVE to be either Nick Varner OR Mark Wilson. Both have college degrees.

I always enjoy Danny D. Great personality, which is what this game needs. It's been said before, but it seems what ESPN shows is very "sterile". I think BCtv is on the right track with the ring game. Pool is full of personality and personalities, both of these should be showcased, it's what makes it interesting. Look at the WSOP, you can hear the players banter and sometimes argue. That's what makes a match between McCready and Salvas intersting. I want to hear Earl bitch about how his opponent gets lucky or seeing Keith with his Budweiser.

It's pool, don't try to make it something it ain't!

My favorite commentators are Grady, Danny D, Jim Rempe Allen Hopkins and Billy C. I don't mind Mitch Laurence as much as some you seem to. I think he could be much better if he had a good color commentator with him. I like him and Allen together and he also has done pretty good with Jim Rempe. His role should be, imo, to facilitate the commentary by moving it along and making sure that they stop and go at the right times. I think he could do a good job of that. And he's a pretty good speaker, i.e., he's clear and easily understood. He doesn't use language that the average person wouldn't understand. I thnk he's fine for the role he should be in. I think they just need to get a good color commentator to share the booth with him and make sure he knows what his role is; to facilitate the commentary and nothing more.

My choices

Of the ones whom I know have done commentary before: Buddy, Nick Varner, Rempe, Robert Byrne, Incardona, and Danny D. (not in order of preference)
Has Mizerak ever done such a thing?

Your efforts are always appreciated, Grady.

And...

I would also like to see Keith, though I've never seen him do commentary before.

I hope Grady makes it down this far. Here are my favorites:

1) Grady
2) Billy Incardona/ Danny D
3) Freddy the Beard
4) Buddy Hall

after this its slim pickens

If they commentate, how about either Wade Crane or Dan Louie? Also, based on his posts, I think Oldhasbeen might be a good commentator, too.

Please not Mike Sigel. I just watched an older match he commentated and the guy actually said, "Archer will come out to what we call the middle of the table."

"what we call" the middle of the freakin' table. Regular folks must call it something else.

My vote goes to Weenie Beanie.

I like Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, and DiLiberto. I'd say Freddy the Beard but I don't think he's the right choice for 9-ball; he's great for one pocket,etc...

Weanie Beanie has a great voice and knows all the games, too. Maybe Grady can have a guest commentator and pick from among the players. Pagulayan, Frost,Jeremy Jones,etc... are young guns who seem like they might have fun doing something like this.

The not-ready-for-primetime dream team: Ronnie Allen, Keith McCready, Jim Mataya and Grady uncensored and talking sh*t. I think this is what would actually make the game popular like poker; Laurence, ESPN and the last couple decades of "lets take gambling and fun out of pool" are crap and need to be stopped. Maybe HBO could find a spot for pool and show some real gambling matches or tournements with the players miked and no idiots in crowd clapping when a lady pro makes a shot but hooks herself.
