Comparing CA for tips

How does the Insta-Flex or Insta-Flex+ from BSI compare to Locktite gel for tip installation?

If Insta-Flex is better, which one? Seems the Insta-Flex+ is the preferred one.

I do like the ability to see the glue inside the BSI bottle. I hate the non see thru Loctite bottle.

Loctite gel works so well, why look for better? And how would you know if it was actually better? If you are having issues with tips, it's either bad glue or faulty technique. Loctite is a standard because it works so well, but it can & does go bad just like any cyano. A new tube might be worth trying. Keeping it in the fridge when not in use is another good idea. I'm by no means saying the BSI glue is or isn't good, just that if you are using fresh Loctite, you shouldn't know the difference between it and any other good glue as it'll hold the tip on forever.

Yes I had a problem with 1 tip poping off. Im pretty sure it was due to old loctite, but it was an unknown ferrule material and a very soft tip.

I read thats its a bad idea to store CA in the frig after its opened. Water in the air condenses and gets into the glue. Its OK to store in frig before its opened.

Its hard to see how much is in the locktite bottle. Maybe I could tell if its getting old if could see it? Maybe it would look thicker?

If you are buying larger amounts the number is 454 and comes in a 20 gram tube and usually must be ordered on-line from a distributor or machine tool supplier (Grizzly used to be about the lowest cost). You must put a lot of tips on for the 454 to be economical however as it goes bad after about 4 weeks after opening and 20 grams can put on a lot of tips. Most, however get smaller tubes from grocery stores and such. These bottles have no numbers. It's just called Loc-tite gel. There are two types Loc-tite contact gel and what I like is called Loc-tite Ultra gel which is rubberized so it takes shock a little better.

I use Loctite 416. It has a gap filling characteristic. I haven't had a tip fall off in 13 years, nor can I rip them off. Once they are glued on, I have to cut them off or they don't come off. I don't work tournaments either, so I let the glue completely cure before I give the shaft back. Cure time on CA is 24 hours.
