comparing chalk

Sand blasting?? I always just wipe it off with a towel and then misscue a few draw shots to confirm it is gone =)

If I wish to compare chalk A with chalk B, what is the best way to remove chalk A?

I would try chalk-A with cue-A, and chalk-B with cue-B.
Same scenario using shafts.
Shaft-A, chalk-A, shaft-B, chalk-B
This systems eliminates the chalk removal issue.

I use my tongue.
Something that you guys might not be aware of is that blue chalk tastes
like blue berries.

I use a napkin or paper towel and wet my thumb and rub the rest off.
Now you're thinking, I've just made my tip wet and can't or shouldn't apply chalk until it drys. I'm not saying, honk a big goober on the tip, just lick your thumb and give the tip a wipe.

Then rub the tip with the towel again to dry it off. All the chalk will come off.

Lick your thumb to get the blue stain off.

PS - Have you ever seen someone turn their cue upside down and rotate the cue between the palms of their hands into the carpet of the pool hall?
The chalk will come off but the carpet is full of grit and greeblies and who knows what else. Not the best thing you could do for your $40 tip.

And besides, if you rotate it too fast, you might start a fire and burn down the hall. Good method tho if you want to start a camp fire the Native way.

BTW, what 2 chalks are you testing?

This is a good start, but then youd be compelled to use chalk A on Shaft B and vice versa.

This way you'd only have to remove once. Use a little 99% alcohol and a tissue and wipe chalk away -- i dont see muchj wrong with that. The results wouldn't be biased by cue that way. Masters is the best btw :)

I thought about that, there is always the potential for human error.
My A/B chalk/shaft system requires a little organization.
Nobody ever said that comparing chalk is easy.
I struggle with blue/green, flag/pre-flag, for instance tonight a grabbed a piece of green pre-flag and I should of grabbed a piece of Blue Diamond.
Being a pool player is tough....:smile-us-down:

screw on tips is the answer!

Sort of serious with this but take it as you like...Try the chalk out on a cheap import cue with a bag of screw on tips. One tip per chalk type. Those tips usually suck fairly equally and if the chalk improves one of the tips grip you'll surely be able to notice it. The best part is the cue and tips might cost less than a cube of some of the chalks you might be testing.
