I am always intrigued by the regional style differences in the soccer styles of South America, Europe and Asia. How would you sum up the playing style differences in pool? Can it be compared in the same way?

Precisely what I was thinking when I started this thread. Thanks!Apparently I am I the minority but I can see different styles in pool as you see in soccer. I used to play semipro soccer and I played over in Europe for a time so I am quite familiar with the different styles when it comes to soccer- i.e. Individual skill/ball skill/overall flair for Brazil, simple, effective moves from Ghana (that grew out of how hot it is there- meaning that a lot of the thing a player from Ghana does has the least body movement possible and is designed to make the opponent move rather than the player with the ball), and the more team oriented approach for the European players.
In pool I think you can definitely see differences in style- not so much in pattern play and shot selection but in the stroke style. One of the most drastic differences is between the Europeans and the phillipinos. The Europeans- think Germany- tend to be exact and textbook in their stroke style while the Phillipinos tend to be very stylistic- large elbow drop, etc.
I also think that you are starting to see a single style of stroke emerge around the world as more players are exposed to the "right" way to do things from a younger age.

I'm not arguing anything Soccer, with a someone who has Pele in his username.![]()
Soccer and one pocket are the same. A lot of moves and little scoring.
Both are boring and will put you to sleep.
When I become King they will be outlawed.
