i like hearing everyone's different views on things so i'd like to hear what people have to say about how the pinoy's hall of fame quartet of efren,busty,parica,and luat match up with the current powerhouse team of orcullo,pagulayan,alcano, and van corteza. i don't really want to hear people fight about who wins in their primes and all that. more of like a discussion like you would compare mosconi cup teams. strengths weaknesses (not that they have any lol) and how you see them matching up.

My opinion is that, with all eight playing the speed that made them famous in the first place, the match is a virtual coin toss. The old guard were slightly better tacticians. The new guard break the balls a little better than the old guard did. Pocketing and pattern play are a dead heat between the two proposed teams.

Yes, I feel in labeling them superior tacticans, I covered that point, but maybe I didn't. The old guard were hard to beat to the shot when tactical warfare was in progress, and their great safety play is a big part of it.

Are we talking 9 ball/10 ball? If so, I'd say it's very close, although I'd really hate to bet against a team that had Reyes AND Parica! Any other game and I'd pick the old guard in a heartbeat.

i think we should keep it to 9/10 ball and one pocket. i know efren is one of greatest one pocket players ever... but i think the firepower of orcullo and pagulayan i wouldnt count them out of any match. i know they would be underdogs but i feel they would hold their own.

If you're going to add one pocket then it's no contest IMO, the old guard would drill them.

i agree the old guys have the advantage but not a guaranteed win as all 8 players are world champion caliber. i heard that efren won't play orcullo for money. if that's true then that should tell you the level of play he is at. and pagulayan is one of the only maybe 5 players on earth that can be seen as his rival. with that said i have to doubt they would get ran over in any game. everyone on the old guard should already be in the hall of fame and for good reason... but imho the new guard is setting a new standard for the way games are played.

Since you're including one pocket then the older players are a strong favorite, you have Efren, Parica and Bustamante - all strong one pocket players. Of the new guard, only Pagulayan plays good one pocket, I've never even heard of Alcano, Orcullo or Van Corteza playing that game. The 10 ball would be about even. so I'd feel like a fool not betting on the old guard.

yeah i wouldn't bet against the older guys in one pocket but think the younger guys would have a chance. in 10 ball i would lean towards orcullo's group.
