TD notes:

This was the most exciting event we have ever promoted and directed on the
Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour. The facility was top notch. Every table (Brunswick
GC4) was in perfect condition and the room was spectacular. I heard players
describe the room as "the best they have ever seen", "a players oasis",
"perfect in every way". The food at the POOL ROM was absolutely phenomenal ! The menu was excellent. Some of my favorite meals were: Wings, Steak and the awesome Pork Roast. The staff were the friendliest people and were a tremendous asset to the event.

All events ran on schedule and the players were at their best. The room
stayed open 24/7 and the Action was non-stop. Action players came from all
over the country and the rail birds were delighted by the spectacular play
by the players that opted to just stay in action instead of playing in the
events. Poker superstar Josh Arieh even made his way to the event to try
his hand at the action tables.

Players and spectators both stated that this was "one of the best events to
ever come to the Southeast". All agreed that the event was "like a mini
Derby City" and all vowed to come back to the event next year.

The tournaments were Directed by Mike Janis with the assistance of
co-directors, (son) Matt Janis and Joe Waugaman.

That is the most statistically significant update I have ever read for any tour! Well done, and it gives the EXACT kind of info for inquiring minds. :p

Since Larry Nevel has moved to South Carolina to join Reeves Cues, he's hitting 'em better than ever. He did well at the Carolinas Open, as I recall. His break and jumping capabilities are his best traits on a field of green. ;)

Glad to see a homeboy do good: Jerry Slivka. Whatever event he competes in, he's usually right up there in the money! He also enjoys games of stake and isn't afraid to step up to the plate, no matter who the opponent. I like Jerry's style!

Shannon Daulton looks like he's on a terror as of late. I'll be watching to see how he does at the U.S. Open One-Pocket tournament in Vegas. He's definitely following the tournament trail closely, attending back-to-back events, and making some very nice scores!

Picture of Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton, first-place winner of the Pro/Am event at the 2005 Super Billiards Expo. I was "this close" to getting me that beautiful trophy for my mantle, but Shannon mentioned to me during a smoke break mid-match with Keith that he already had a place for it back home on his mantle. Second place didn't have no trophy. :(

To this day, I have never seen a pool trophy that caught my eye like this one. :p

My shak'em'up magic 8-ball sais......................It's unlikely !

Reasoning............ The Viking Tour has 61 stops per year. If we gave away a trophy like the one in the pic at every event it would cost us about a minimum of $9,000 extra per year.

I'm sure the mass of the players prefer to have lower fees rather than pay extra to support the trophy expense for 1 winner.

I just thought I would add this:

We like to give this instead of trophies.... Heck, instead of the trophy how about a copy of the picture to hang on a wall. You can always look at at when the dough runs out and try figure out what you did with it?

Taken at the csh payout session at the SCO..

Jeez Mike, couldn't you be a little more thorough with your first post? I just know you had to leave something out, didn't ya? J/K, great job, I sure wish I lived out there to play on your tour. Peace, John.

John, if you can find me only 6 locations in the AZ area you wouldn't have to come this way. We would come to you.

I'm thinking 6 events in Jan-Feb 06. I sure could use a break from all the snow here in the North.

Mike....thanks for the post. I see where you have the entry fee for the ring game $500. What was the entry fee to the other events?

And when are you coming to St. Louis? I thought you had an event scheduled @Side Pockets in St. Charles and Lutman's place over in Illinois. We had another pool room here, in St. Louis, close down recently that held another local tour's events so the number of bigger tournaments in our area was cut in half.

Watchez, we are currently booked full through December with another dozen locations trying to get on the schedule. I will be working on the Jan-Mar schedule over the next few weeks and will try to get some events on the schedule in your area.

Aside from the tournament action at the SCO event, the evening hours brought plenty of road players to the event. One of the players that was in constant action was Johnathon Tedder along with part-time road partner Scooter. Below is a pic of them showing off some of the take down from the action tables.

Monica Webb won the $500 in bonus money by competing and finishing highest out of the women that played in both the 8-ball and 9-ball events.

Monica's total earnings from the events were $900

Ok, thanks. I was mis-informed. I thought the Side Pocket event was a done deal. This area needs bigger events. Some of the better players are by-passing the smaller entry fee local events to travel to bigger out of town tournaments, even if that means stiffer competition.

Anyways, what was the entry fee for the 8-ball, 9-ball and One Pocket @The Southern Classic? Glad to hear Shannon hitting them good and winning the overall title.

Hey, that kid shooting is "Tater." I met him at the U.S. Open this year. He's a hoot and most definitely has no fear!

Yeah, yeah, Tater Tot. So much for protecting the partial annonimity of road players.

Sweet, sounds like a player couldn't have a better time for around $200. They have a $20,000 event down in Memphis next month that I am trying to get a friend out of semi-retirement & commit to going to. I hope it has the same success & showing as your event. Railbirds like myself need their fix.
