Concert type ear plugs

Military did no see need for ear protection, NCOs yelling was louder then small arm noise.

I am almost deaf thanks to wisdom of military.

Beside GIs we’re expendable.
When I was an army medic attending the armored cannon range in the mid 60s, I was constantly tearing apart bandages to supply tank crews that begged me for cotton for their ears.
My hearing survived years of standing in front of a guitar amp (luckily not playing hard rock), but it was pharmaceuticals that finally gave me tinnitus (like your head is full of mosquitos).
Needing ear plugs at a concert is bad enough, but the world is really out of control when you can’t play pool without them!

Hoping for some recommendations of concert type ear plugs to wear while playing pool. The music last week at league was so loud my ears were still ringing the next day. I do not want full ear protection like ear muffs just ear plugs for now. I have to find something and do not want to ask the management to lower the music, clearly some people like it. Plus it might just make me THAT guy...

I have done some research but am looking for reviews from pool players!

I would bet there are quite a few people as annoyed by the loud music as you are and thinking the same thing "I don't want to be the one to ask to turn it down" LOL

A few places they have speakers right over the table(s) and it's more like being at a concert than a bar or pool hall. Going down to normal sound levels is not a out of the ordinary thing to ask.

This cash league is a pretty big deal, the first place team in this session will get $12,000. Mike Davis has a team in it, which is great really, he is a wonderful player and all around good guy. So yeah, it gets pretty serious after the first three months of fun ends and the real maneuvering starts as we move towards the final three months..

I was not alone concerning the music and am fairly sure it will be addressed. I also think it is better for me to be prepared and have some adequate ear protection sooner rather than later, I want to get used to using it. My left ear is already worse than my right so I know I have some issues and need to protect what I still have..

It is sad fact that the armed forces did not protect our men and women better for many generations. Thanks for your service, my PCP is a former a helo doc...

I used to have earplugs, but like another said, the plug ins/cheap many use shooting guns are fine but. Me now, I just go to the bar, grab a fresh ''bev nap'' pinch/tear a corner off and stick it.
One for each ear.
No cost, don't grab the top beverage napkin and you can add more or less as needed.

Not sure what concert type means

I got seats 3 rows back, front and center for a Tom Petty concert 30-odd years ago.
By the end of the second song I was looking for anything physically available to put in my ears
That concert was worse than shooting without plugs at the indoor range.

I have been using these for years.
Edit: looks like they're pretty hard to find now. $50 on eBay is all I could see.

I will be getting these if my DUBS ever get lost
These are the ones to use, they fit comfortably and still allow you to hear if someone needs to talk to you, they would need to speak louder, but you dont have to take them in and out.

I bought these a couple of years ago for this exact reason. https://eargasm.com

While they worked very well at reducing the volume of the music, they did not do anything for the level of conversation around. When the music is on 11, so is everyone's voice in the bar. That ended up being worse than the music, so I just went with regular disposable ear plugs that you can pickup just about anywhere.

Go figure. Any band that has a ‘name’ now uses an overpowering P.A. system, and mics the drums & all the amplifiers, even when playing tiny clubs. My attitude was always: if the music isn’t loud enough, then the audience isn’t paying attention. They don’t need a P.A. system at Carnegie Hall, and the violins there aren’t electrically amplified!

The latest complication is players who wear WiFi ‘ear buds’, that not only blocks the oppressive poolroom music, but simultaneously plays loud music of a different variety. They are thus impossible to communicate with.

Is that because their ear buds have synced with the house music system somehow? Or is it there own music from their phone?

its all about the decibel reduction. around 30 is all you can get. the foam plugs give around that if you install them correctly and not just shove them in your ear.
headphones dont do any better. both will get some extra but not double it doesnt work that way.

Which creates another problem.... people will, and have, used them to cheat. That's why they are vannednat many events.
