"CONGRATULATIONS 2004 BCA OPEN 9-BALL CHAMPION TONY ROBLES"
Can't think of a more deserving player than Tony, he is truly one of the genuinely nicest people you will ever meet on or off the table.
I wish him all the best and continued success!

100% True

I agree with you 100%. I have only two really heroes in this game and they would be Tony Robles and Nick Varner. The coolest two players in the world. I am going by players that I have met so please don't think that I'm taking away from the other players. Now the best PLAYER in my opinion is Earl !!! But he is a first class horses' ass as far as attitude. Respect his game but hate his ways.

Personality-wise I always really liked Varner, that guy seems super cool.

I've always heard great things about Tony. He must be a tough player in the alternate break format. He always does well in Vegas. I've always heard that you can bet on him and never worry about being dumped. Glad to see a nice guy finish first.

what a great message.

What a great message this thread is turning into. Now if the some of the other players will look at the admiration you can get for being a decent human being and still be a great player, such as the afore-mentioned. Our sport will evolve in new directions. I've never met Tony and knew nothing about him, but it sounds like he's a good role model. I've met Nick and know some of his friends and he is a class act all the way. Sam

Im so glad that he won the BCA tour It will help him out so much..U know this is first Major tourment he has ever won? Tony is a great guy and im very happy to know him.If u ever go to NYC and want some lessons Get with him . :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Tony is one of the good guys of pool, had a cueball autographed by him once, I must say that i didnt think he would beat santos but im glad that he did, maybe this will get him on a roll of many tournaments wins to come!

I've only seen him when He played in the 2002 BCA Open Finals, when he lost to Charlie Williams he even guided Williams to shake the hands of the fans.

One of the nicest guys in pool, he deserves to win it.

You are all soooooo right. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. It's not always true what they say, 'Nice guys finish last.' This time the nice guy took down the cheese. Mark one for the good guys, hopefully the first of many.

Congradulations Tony.

Ralf, Mika, Rodney Excited About It, Too

Tony Robles really is a special guy, and he was voted Sportsperson of the Year when he played the Camel Tour, so his fellow pros obviously think so, too.

His fellow competitors have great respect for him, and it was no surprise to me that Souquet, Morris, and Immonen all made a point of staying for the awards presentation at the BCA Open to personally congratulate him on gaining his first major title as a professional pool player.

The always classy Souquet was defending champion of the event, but was gracious in defeat. Immonen, like Souquet, was a victim of Tony's heroics at the Mosconi Cup, when he beat Mika to give the US team a 10 - 8 lead, all but assuring the Mosconi Cup for the US. Morris, the former US Open champion, had always been Tony's nemesis at the table, but in the BCA Open, Tony was the one who knocked him to the losers bracket, derailing his title hopes.

In short, three legends of the game that have all been victims of Tony's stellar play of late showed a lot of class by making a point of sharing this very special achievement with Tony.

Tony is not just a fine pool player but a credit to his sport. It's nice when nice things happen to nice people. The fact that Tony's win put a smile on the faces of Ralf, Mika and Rodney tells you that even the superstars of the game understand how special Tony Robles is.

I would like to also give congrats to Tony. I know before I even really started playing seriously, I attend some of the men's pro events and he was there. Now the only difference is I got to watch Tony play while I was also playing. What a relevation for me. He is a strong player and deserves every bit of what he accomplished in Vegas. I only hope to do the same some day.

And about the nice guy thing. I had a player playing in the BCA 8-ball event tell me that honest players never make it. I told him that's funny, I have. Looks like you have not done well due to your cheating, I told him. Made him mad but who cares about upsetting a bad person & a cheater to boot.

You can play this game honestly and win. Besides if you lose to a cheater, who really lost ?

Once again !! WhoHA to the good guy - Tony !!!!

I would also like to add my congratulations to Tony! I spoke to him before the first round of the tournament, and I asked him how he was playing. He said he didn't think he was playing bad for a guy who hadn't been practicing much in the previous 6 months because he had been so busy giving lessons!

I met Tony for the first time in Reno 8 or 9 years ago. I cold barley hold a stick, but I was practicing in the tournament room while the men pro players were having their pictures taken on the table next to where I was practicing. Only 2 of the male pros acknowledged my existence...and they were Tony Robles and Tommy Kennedy. Tommy was just a nice guy....being his normal chatty self. But Tony noticed me a pool player...and mentioned that he thought I had a good stroke. Now, I have been hit on in this manner by many pool players....but I knew that Tony was being completely sincere and that he had no ulterior motives. He just took the time to acknowledge another pool player and encourage them in their efforts to become better.

Since that day, Tony Robles has been one of my pool heroes...and I couldn't be happier for him!

I watched Tony's match with Rodney Morris and the final match with Santos and I gotta give it to the guy, he played great! The cameras and the lights were no distraction at all for Tony and he played flawless until the last game when he missed the 8-ball. Also, Rodney Morris and Ralf Soquet are class acts for being there for the end. I was sitting with Rodney during the final match and he was suffering from food poisoning. He sat there for as long as he could, then took a walk to vomit every 5 minutes. But he stayed til the end. It was a great ending to a great tournament and clearly the fan favorite won. I'm going to do my best to be in that field of 64 for next years event and hopefully I can be the one to hold that trophy up. Peace all!

Hi Vagabond,

Call it woman's intuition...LOL. I knew he was just being a friendly guy....with no other intentions!
