Congratulations Cris Delagarza, 8-ball Champion

I just thought when a player is ranked as a pro, as she is with the WPBA, the player could not participate in the Open event. Curious on answer, bc not interested enough to look it up.

Being IN the WPBA and being ranked high are two different things. Like the Fast Eddies 9Ball tour does not let anyone ranked 26 or higher, I believe, play in their events.

Number 17 is probably high enough ranking. Maybe it is different for the women. I know the rules for Fast Eddies, but would hardly begin to compare that tourney with this one. No biggie, like I said just curious, not really concerned. Peace! :)

I don't like the way this thread is proceeding. I hear it every year here in Vegas --- the guy or gal who won shouldn't have been in that division --- and I get more and more tired of hearing it every year ...... and yet, I haven't heard anyone here say it about Cris.

Setting the record straight, Cris is not a WPBA pro. She has played in just two WPBA events, and is not yet exempt into WPBA fields.

Her placement in the open dvision was appropriate, and now that she has accomplished her solid victory at the open level, she will move up in class in next year's event, which is also appropriate.

Let's return to the theme of this thread, which is celebrating the fine achievement of a well liked and highly respected AZB poster.

Well, I thought I would ask since I was not sure. I guess more pros could have played. Apparently congrats are in order! Are you her "keeper" or something? lol

I will chime in and clear up the confusion.

First...............Congrats to Cris for winning 2009 BCAPL Open 8 Ball Championship! Definitely a title to brag about! She played great and earn it every step of the way.

OK, Cris is a very talented up and coming player and when the BCAPL's season started, I don't think she was ranked high in WPBA for her to automatically compete as Master player. Not because she didn't play well, but because, Cris had only played 1 WPBA event, maybe two at most...

I am not sure if Cris had played the BCAPL before this year, but only small percentage of top finishers are granted the access to next level of competition. i.e. Open to Master and to Grand Master.

By winning the Open Championship, Cris will compete in Master Division next year... unless ???? Cris can snag a WPBA title or two:wink: Then she'll be too good for Master, LOL

Don't get your panties in a wad. If you look at the WPBA website it is a bit confusing. It looks like she is overall ranked 17, but was apparently the San Diego tourney. I was just curious on the details, not taking away anything from Cristina. A good majority of people voice their opinions on here, which is why it is called a "forum." If you read back, I was asking a question. Chill people!

It is obvious that you meant no harm or disrespect, and thanks for setting the record straight here, but the fact is that you posted the following:

Your statement that Cris is ranked as a pro on the WPBA tour was not offered as your opinion but as fact, and it happens to be incorrect. Pro status on the WPBA tour is attained by achieving a top 32 ranking based on an entire tour year of results. FYI, in a typical WPBA event, about 2/3 of the field is pro, and the remaining 1/3 of the field is non-pro.

Still, these details aside, it's obvious that, like the rest of us, you are proud of your fellow AZB poster, and are gving credit where credit is due.

No harm done, just a little confusion here. I'm sorry if I overreacted to your post.

Congrats

Way to go! i saw the final match. Very good play. Hope to see you on the tv tables soon.
