IPT North American Open Update

Breaking News
Due to "personal reasons" Mr. Pete Fusco has officially withdrawn from the IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship. Fusco was very disappointed that he was not able to play in this event. He admitted that he "has practiced very hard for this event." Fusco plans to compete in the World Open.

Fusco's replacement is Jeff Beckley, who was the third alternate on the waitlist to play in the North American Open. Beckley played in multiple IPT qualification tournaments. He had one third place finish in the NA Open qualification system, and played in four of the five weekends of the system. His high finish and multiple attempts placed him third on the alternate list and now on the tournament roster. Beckley was called just minutes ago and was told the news that he would be competing in the North American Open. His first reaction was "Are you kidding me?" He was very excited to hear the news. Beckley asked who he has replaced and expressed disappointment when he was told that it was Fusco.

The IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship starts Sunday morning, July 23, 2006. Match times are 10am, 12:30pm, 3pm, 5:30pm, and 8pm (Pacific) daily. Up to the minute results, pictures, stories, and other information will be available on line at www.internationalpooltour.com. Web coverage for this $2,000,000 event will be unprecedented in the world of billiards. The winner of this event will receive an historic $350,000 first prize! Don't miss any of the action.

Man, seems to be a lot of people dropping from that tournament.(personal reasons, visa problems, etc.) What's going on???

Eh, I don't think it's that big of a deal. WDs happen in big golf tournaments all the time. Sometimes the guys in the tournaments aren't able to play for whatever reason. That's the reason for alternates. Congrats to Mr. Beckley a fellow hoosier I believe.

Wow, another AZB'er in the IPT (I believe JB posts here occasionally as "sandianakid"). Good luck to Jeff.

On the other hand, isn't he now in the group with Ralf Souquet, Mark Tademy, George Breedlove? If so, that's one tough group, and I believe JB is a very good friend of GB's. It should be a great tournament.

I bet ...

his packing and plane and hotel reservations were done in a hurry!!! ... lol

Probably the hardest part for him will be 'calming down' before the tournament.

It looks like Jimmy Fusco is in George's group.

If Jeff is replacing Pete Fusco, he is in the group with:

Ike RUNNELS
Shannon DAULTON
Corey DEUEL
Ronnie WISEMAN

Pretty tough crowd there.

I thought he was with George when I first looked and thought "What a bad roll!" LOL

I don't know if this any better, but Jeff has a lot of Heart, so he has a shot and I wish him the best of luck.

P.S. Williebetmore I think I was one of the first people to play on your table.

A hoosier? Is this Jeff Beckley a consulting actuary, by any chance? Or his son, maybe? How old is the pool-playing Jeff Beckley?

Don't think so on the actuary.

Late 20's early 30's.

Good guy who likes the action.

JC,
Thanks for the correction; JB is in a VERY tough group. I would love to see him advance, I think that would definitely be an eye-opener.

Are you one of SD's helpers - I can't remember who was with him when he installed the GCIV (or are you thinking of the previous house with the Ohlhausen?)???? In any case, welcome to the board, and let me know if you are ever interested in coming over to shoot.

The game of 8 ball is a very wierd game and becomes wierder on a slow cloth on a 9 footer. It is anybodies game for those who reached a certain skill level.

Willie - Who is George Breedlove, isn't he a hasbeen! WOW This is AWESOME... I am going to the Chicago tournament, you going? Congrats to Jeff Beckley, but like to see George and him in the Finals...AZers watch out for George Breedlove, he can play the game of 8 Ball.

BB,
Should be a great tournament. I heard that GB smashed both of his hands under a large rock at work last week, couldn't even think of holding a cue for several days. I believe he was hoping he could hold a cue by the time the IPT started.

Willebetmore, I was SD's helper on the GCIV.

I remember the great room you put it in and the fact that you were gracious enough to let us play one of the first games on it with you.

Just discovered these forums, and it looks like you guys have a great place going here.

I have not been playing much since Chalkies changed hands and would love to play some straight pool or one hole on a big track.

Billiardbum, if you are JS, I am Justin ( big guy used to play out of Chalkies) looks like you are building some top shelf cues.

I hope to get back into the Indy pool scene a little more.

A tough group

That is a tough group to have to play. But Jeff can play the big tables. When he first came to Indiana, I was told if I matched up with him, to play him on the Bar tables. His big table game was a lot tougher to beat. I was thrilled to see he got into this event. He's a great player and shows a lot of class when he's playing. Best of luck to you Jeff. Sam

Justin,
I do remember you. You helped install my friends matching GCIV (though I can't remember if you also helped on mine, I was thinking Steve did mine by himself) - I was there watching the whole thing. You also were the very first person I ever played one-pocket with (at Chalkies). I'm interested in getting more into one-pocket now; have mainly played 14.1 since I started playing 4 years ago. I'll send you a PM (private message, accessed through the link at the top of each page).

BilliardBum is JS.

Justin - Good to hear from you, and thanks for the comments on the cues...Trying every day to better and better. Jim
