Congratulations to Earl Strickland!

How could a player who is still active in the pros become ineligible to get into the HoF? Parica could still win some major titles. Sure he is not the favorite he once was, but if he wins the US Open this year and that win NEVER comes into play on his being accepted into the HoF as a "player" then the HoF needs to check their bloody heads on how they limit the age of a player getting in.

From what I know Ralph Greenleaf was quite a lot older then Jose when he was inducted into the HoF. In fact I believe he was quite dead at that point.

I agree. As long as a player is still playing and in Jose's case still finishing high and winning there should be no restriction on being nominated for the Hall of Fame.

And as well the BCA can change the HOF rules at will, it's their thing not like a worldwide consortium of billiard bodies making rules in stone. It's the BCA's hall of fame, they can amend or stretch their rules any time they want.

Since I'm one of the voters I can say he is eligible but would come up form the veterans side which is ever other year. But would still be as a player the same as Danny D last year. I would need to look but know the starting age now is 40 and believe 60 or 62 is the top then it is in the hands of the Veteran Committee to nominate.

That's just silly. We all talk about pool being this awesome game with no age limit then we put age limits on it.

Give Parica his due and vote him in normally in the player's category as it should be.

Earl...You played well in this year's US Open 9Ball event ...You were a gentleman and credit to the sport. ...

Scott -- Yes, Earl played well and finished 17th - 24th. But he was not always a gentleman. In his streamed match with Appleton, he hung the 3-ball in game #3 and started his usual type of yapping. Ken Shuman asked him to hold it down. Earl continued yapping at many points throughout the match, with Darren even appealing to Ken at one point to tell Earl to be quiet when Darren was at the table.

Just thought the picture should be a bit more accurate.

great tournament for earl. hes proved again and again he's ageless as far as pool goes. and on that same note, (no de-railing intended) parica should 100% be in the hall of fame. if he isn't in the hall of fame, then who cares about the hall of fame? anyone who gives 2 shits about pool knows and respects the great amang parica...

I'm sure people already could care less about the hall of fame. It is only brought up during the introductions in US events, and that's it. I believe Chao Fong Pang should have one as well.

I was sitting ringside when Earl and Parica were playing in the winner's side. Jose got a bunch of good rolls and after about the 3rd one, Earl started coming unglued. He was down 6-0 and started muttering to himself about Jose being "destined to win this....I'm certainly not going to come out of this one." As the match wore on, Early began talking with the fans closest to his chair about Jose was getting all the rolls, etc. Vintage Earl kind of stuff. By the end, whenever Earl got a chance to shoot he'd walk up to the table (and he was limping by the way; not sure if he's hurt or the assweights are misadjusted or something) and start running out, talking to himself the entire time. If he ran out the rack, he'd begin to look like he might get back in it. Then he'd break dry or have to pushout, and walk back to his seat muttering about "it's his turn to win." After Jose sank the case ball, Earl jumped out of his seat to congratulate him and the first words were, "You got every roll today, didn't you?" He did, but he also played better making more balls on the break, playing tighter safeties. How about a little something for the effort?

I guess it depends on what you like to watch. I kind of prefer a bit more professionalism when the rolls aren't coming his way.

When he's in gear, there is no one better in 9 ball. Truly. His game is amazing to watch; just over the top incredible. I got a chance to play a set against him in an exhibition 20 years ago and it was just astounding to observe. When it hits the fan, though, he sounds like a homeless guy with a pool cue.

I don't profess to know what demons he has, what his life has been like, or even what it's like to be half that good. I'm just making observations here. I wish him only the best of things and would love to see him win another title; hell he's about my age, I have to root for him!

Just my .02

To Atlarge and Brian...I was unaware that Earl had any 'meltdowns' this time around. I guess nobody is foolproof. I still love Earl's skill, and will always believe he still has some major victories still left in him.

Well, he didn't do any of those things during this tournament...to his credit. Hence the reason for the thread!

Darren played safe on Earl, Earl kicked & made a good hit but unfortunatly sold out.... one lady clapped thinking (nice kick) Earl looked her right in the face and said "FU@&ING A$$HOLE"
We have become so conditioned to Earls bad behavier that this is now considered being a gentleman.

yup, I just watched earl and SVB this AM on Youtube .It was TAR 20 . I watched the first 2 of 11 episodes and was amazed that Earl wasn't decked by a spectator. Earl is truly talented on the table but his personality in the ring is obnoxious.

Earl...You still have a ton of supporters here on AzB, who absolutely KNOW you still possess the skills to beat anybody on Earth! You played well in this year's US Open 9Ball event, and to your credit did not have anything happen to take away from your great play. There are those that feel that it's "fun" to try to aggrivate you. That has happened in the past, and sometimes you have been unable to let that go. Not this time. You were a gentleman and credit to the sport. Here's hoping you go all the way next year, and win another crown from BB! I still would love to see you on the Mosconi Cup team! GO Earl!!!

Yes. Either I am the last guy on this planet who cares about manners, or Earl Strickland is an embarrassment to the game, simply.

Earl has been in much better moods and spirits. Hope he has turned over a new leaf and can get back to Greatness that he is
