Conical versus pro taper shaft

What is the playing characteristics and/or differences between the two type of shafts?

For me it is mainly in the feel. All other things being equal a conical taper will feel "stiffer". I much prefer a pro taper but then again I mainly employ a closed bridge. I don't like feeling as though I'm running out of shaft on the through stroke, and I don't even use a particularly long bridge. If I played exclusively with an open bridge I might not care so much.

The characteristic is different when employing a longer stroke, the pro taper "wobbles" less.
In general, yes - the canonical is stiffer, too (due to having more wood).

Only way to know is to try it with your bridge types and strokes.

I do kind of like both, a "not so strict canonical" is fine for me.

Just a bump to see if anyone else has comments regarding the two types of shaft tapers

I'll bet doing a search for different tapers would give you hours of reading. 3 cushion billiard cues use a pretty true conical taper as do/did some really cheap imported pool cues.

For me pro tapper, don't need head ache of loop on bridge opening up on follow thru! Pro tapper for sure if use loop bridge keeps a more accurate & straighter stroke on follow thru!
