Connelly Files for Chapter 11

I have had two bad experiences with Connelly mechanics. They did a horible job setting up my table(different brand). My brother in law wanted a table and I told him not to buy Connelly. He did. Table played poorly, balls hopping off the rails. Lots of air time. When I told him how poorly the table played he was a little piss at me but at least he called Conelly and they did fix the table. I dont consider them top quality.

On the other hand I'm sorry to hear they are having money problems. They have provided sponsership money.

It's not the economy that is forcing them to fail. It's bad management or non-viability of the product.

According to the treasury department, the very beginning of the recession was cited as being 1 year ago. The force of the recession hit maybe 6 months ago. So, if your company can't survive a 6-month economic downturn, it probably wasn't doing well before the recession hit. If it was doing well before the recession hit, it was probably mismanaged.

Same thing goes for these car makers. Economic downturn my ass. So the economy was SOOOO bad these last 6-8 months they lost $50B? MMhmm. How about "nobody wanted their junk cars for years before it was cool to blame the economy?"

Just my humble opinion.

I think Chinese tables are very much a factor. Like a lot of lower quality imported items, the promotion tools used create illusions of "equal quality" for "a fraction of the price". Consumers that become confused, often opt for the lower priced table.

Ditto.......Most of the Chineese CRAP we get here in the states is just that CRAP.. GREED is killing this economy....just watch the news. I for one will pay more for better USA quality items than buy JUNK from China.

Crap is crap no matter where it comes from. However the computer you are typing on, the Iphone in your hand and lots of name brand high end stuff is made in China.

I will pay more for quality goods no matter where they are made.

Want to know a real sad irony?

When I need woodworking tools or other tools or supplies that are readily available at Home Depot or Lowes or ACE Hardware, good stuff that is made in China - I can't find those tools IN CHINA. My choice here is severely limited and I can't just run down to Home Depot and pick up what I need. And when I DO find a tool I need it's usually the ONLY choice and comes with no chance to get replacement parts and no guarantee.

Y'all complain about the lowest end of the market - the junk - but you never look at the convenience and choice that that you have. Try living in another country like I do and need something that is completely common in the USA. Then you will appreciate the choice a consumer driven society offers you.

There are a LOT of good products that are made in China and everywhere in the world. Good PEOPLE make them and we are all living breathing human beings who deserve to live. If you WANT to blame someone then blame the IMPORTERS for IMPORTING junk and selling it to you as if it were something good.

Good companies provide good products and services no matter where they or their goods are from. No company has a right to survival or patronage SIMPLY because they are on American soil. They still have to provide good products and good service.

My friend Mark Smith put Connely tables in his room. The main table was a Connelly Ultimate. A good USA Made Table. I hated it and lost around $500 the first time I played on it because it played so awful. Mark called Connelly and they told him how to FIX IT - they explained that the rails were set wrong and the pockets were set wrong and he was able to fix the table so that it played decently after that. So you have to ask yourself IF someone wouldn't conclude that Connelly tables are crap if they had a bad experience like I did and never played on the readjusted one? So crap - or something that SEEMS like crap can come from anywhere, even American companies. There is always more to the story.

Just curious why you would buy a Campran when you can get a used Gold Crown, Gandy big G, even a Diamond for 1700? I know I have bought my last 3 tables used (GC1, Diamond Pro, GC2) and I never paid above 1500 for any of the tables.

None of the ones I looked at were for that price. The people selling em basically wanted what they paid for it brand new. What I really wanted was a GC actually.

I'm selling mine off right now since I have nowhere to put it. Whenever I buy my next house it will most certainly have room for a table in either the basement or the garage (preferably a garage because carrying 1" slate down narrow stairs is a *****). This way I don't have to be nagged for practicing at the bar for 8 hours and better yet I don't walk up to the table in a piss poor mood for being nagged.

I hear the same might be true for Brunswick Billiards next. Up in Chicago and Wisconsin, Brunswick is advertising that they will sell wholesale to the general public - obviously making many of their distrubutors unhappy.

I've heard that Brunswick has been trying to sell their pool table business but can't find any interested parties. If they don't find any takers the story is they may just shut the doors. Who will mfg replacement parts for all those Valley and Dynamo tables

:-) The factories that are making them now under a different name. Who knows - this might be the year that Diamond comes into it's own and they might emerge as the USA's #1 table manufacturer.

They closed their store in Glendale, AZ on Bell Road recently. I always thought there location was poor, sale people did not know much, and price were high. Forumal for disaster, plus the housing market effects table sales. Arizona's housing market is here.

Ok, so I checked the SEC filings for Brunswick and found this nice paragraph:

During the third quarter of 2008, the Company finalized its evaluation of the potential sale of its Valley-Dynamo coin-operated commercial billiards business and determined that, as a sale was unlikely, it would close the business altogether. The Company plans to concentrate its efforts on more profitable lines of business such as its Brunswick branded billiards tables, furniture, and accessories and its consumer Dynamo, Tornado and Valley pool tables, Air Hockey and foosball tables.

Guess that speaks for itself!! Does that make Diamond the #1 barbox mfg as of 1/1/09? What does that mean for the VNEA?

This is news! I think that the VNEA is a separate organization anyway. It would probably continue. What will happen with the thousands of coin-op vendors out there that sell and service Valley tables though? This might be great news for Diamond.

I know that there are Valley copies being made in China. They are not used or played on here - I have only seen ONE coin-op table here in two years. I can only imagine that someone will fill the void for the Valley-style table.

Personally - I hope Diamond goes all the way and becomes the number one bar table provider in the USA.
