Considering buying a Schon LTD

So what are you saying?

I am looking at a new Schon Ltd. model LTD1122 w/ leather wrap. I currently play with an STL-1, and I used to play with a CX-5... I *love* the hit, and I like that they have interchangable shafts. I can get a great price on this cue, and I think I'm going to order it.

I am wondering, because it is an LTD, will it's resale value stay higher than a regular production model?

Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions about this cue?

I've got a Schon LTD (I forget what model #). I didn't buy it new - my old team captain got it off eBay for a good price, then sold it to me for that plus fifty (he had to make SOMETHING off it, apparently!).

My question to you is, are you buying it for the resale value, or for the playability of it? If you're just after a good hit, I don't see why the LTDs would hit better than the regular cues - the only special thing about the LTDs is that they only make a dozen of that design. I don't know that they're built any differently from the normal production cues that the hit would be better/different. I've no idea on that.

If you're after just resale value, then I would think (just an opinion) that the limited run of the design would be a factor in the future resale value. Of course that would also depend on the resale value of Schons in general, whether that value goes up/down.

I think for a thousand bucks you could do better

I'd love to hear more.. Do you not like the hit, the looks, the or manufacturer?

I'm getting a killer price on their cues AND it will hit great, I just don't see what could possibly be better.. A custom cue somewhere else will cost me more, I'm not sure if I'll like the hit or not, and I'll probably have to send the butt in if I ever want another shaft.

I am buying it for playability, however, I would like it to hold it's value... I am going to finally settle with a cue for a long time.... :D

For the resale value remember there is a difference between LTD and SP. I thought i was buying an LTD, but it was really a SP even though the butt cap had "Schon LTD".

The great thing about Schon is the consistency. So if it is 400 dollar STL1 or a 6500 dollar Unique, they always hit the same.

I have 2 schon ltds
The hit is nice as are the looks in both
I dont think I would get my money back on either if I sold them
Using a Carolina Custom now ,shoots as well or better as the schons
Cue was made for me the way I wanted for under 1000
I have another one coming in a couple of days that looks real nice
Also one of a kind

My position on Schons has been frequently and vigorously expressed. For playability, you can't go wrong. If you already play with a Schon and you like how it serves you why get something else unless you have some compelling reason? I am a believer in finding a hit you like and sticking with it.

To my mind, all the money that people spend on this cue and that cue could be better spent playing me some $500 sets. I'll take the six and out, if you run a three pack or more on me you automatically lose the set. Sounds good?

i play with a schon......the only high dollar schon id buy would be one of the skull ones and only because i just think they are cool. I dont think id ever buy any other higher priced schon because the resell just isnt there, id just find a nice middle of the road schon that i liked and use the money i saved on something else.

Schons may not have the sizzle but dollar for dollar they're tough to beat. If you pick up a basic "not brand new" model from an AZBer or even Ebay, you stand a good chance of getting your $$$ and more.

To me its a no brainer. You like the cue, its great hitting, its a great deal and it will maintain its value to a large degree.. just get it.

ps, i have an stl9 and a scruggs.. if you put a blindfold on me, I could not tell the difference.

He is buying a 1500.00 retail cue and also asked about resale value
Sure it will hit good but so will the 500.00 basic model

that was my point......if youre going from resell it aint worth it with a 1500 cue.......ur prob going to lose at least 700 if u tried to sell it unless you just get some cue everybody wants or schon goes out of business.

I have 2 schon's. One is an STL20 and is one of only 3 made so my email said that i got from Even Clark from Schon. It is in the blue book for 2380.00and i have been asking 1000.00 for it for a couple of years now. Everyone tells me that they are not good sticks to resale. Either way i love the way mine plays but i do have an old Pred. shaft on it. I found i had more cue ball controll with it. Hope this helps, Dou

He did say he was getting a great deal on it, so he may be able to resell it for very close to what he paid for it. just comes down to preference.

That's pretty much my thoughts. I have the "spare" cash, and I'm not paying retail... :D

Thanks to everyone for their opinions and help!

Doesn't sound to me like you can go wrong. Definitely a very good cue.
In general, if you buy something, almost anything, with the attitude that if you have to, you can resell it, you end up taking a loss. Of course there are exceptions. However, since your buying the cue because you really like it and have a mind to keep it for a long time, in addition to your good price; buy it and play well.

If you love the hit, think it's a great price, and love the way it looks, you can't ask for much more.

Will the answer sway your thoughts on buying?

On resale, I think any Schön cue is going to be in that 67% of retail. I don't think the LTD has any more resellability than their "regular production model."

Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions about this cue?
It's a slight throwback to their late 80's boxy style points. I never liked the look back then, but this one's color scheme softens the looks. That's my opinion.

Fred <~~~ thumbs up for all Schön cues
