Contact Lenses?

contacts are great. get the monthly ones so you don't sleep in them or anything. also ask your optician about air optix lenses which are designed to be worn longer than normal and let your eyes breathe more.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for weighing in on the issue. I wasn't sure about the astigmatism really making a big enough difference or not, but we will see. I made an appt. for tomorrow with an optometrist. I don't mind wearing my glasses on a daily basis, just for pool. And knowing that I can mention that to the dr. without him saying "what do you want me to do about it?" really helps the situation. Thanks for all the great suggestions.

I spent $200 on my last pair of scratch proof, shatter proof, OSHA approved prescription glasses, so knowing the contacts are as cheap as they sound and will last as long as they will (if I am only using them for pool) just made my day.

contact lenses

i wear focus softcolors ,they are way better than glasses but they will get dry and uncomfortable after long periods. they seem to do better if you use a stronger cleaning solution . they are not too bad if its not real smoky in the poolroom:thumbup:

i have been wearing contacts sense i was in the 8th grade... getting alittle dry now and then is a given... especially in a pool hall/bar (the smoking bans have not hit her.... yet)... i absolutely hate wearing my glasses now... and as soon as i can afford it i will be looking into lasik in hope of not having to wear any at all... they dont take to long to get use to... hell i dont even look in the mirror to place them or take them out anymore... :)

I bought a pair of glasses like these... http://www.billiard-eyeglasses.com/... but I bought them locally. They only cost me ~$50 with my insurance coverage.

My optometrist called this guy (the Canadian optometrist) and he shared with him how to prescribe the prescription. They work great but I really don't wear them that much as I had lasik ~8 years ago and see 20-25. The glasses just make everthing out to ~14 feet that much more in focus.

I wear Acuvue Advance and I love them!! I've had contacts for about 10 years, and have actually tried playing pool with my glasses on. With glasses however....I can't make a ball to save my life. LOL. The AA's I can wear for about 2 weeks taking them out every night. Every now and then, they'll dry out depending on which pool hall I'm at, but with the drops I carry in my case, I'm fine.

My question to all of you is this: Will contacts make enough of a difference in sighting down the table to make up for the $200 price tag?

After a couple sets, yes.

Main reason I wouldn't order a special pair is I would look like this:

Well, not so much like a dog...but I would be dogging a bunch of shots...eh? eh?!

-ahem-

Yeah. My prescription is bad.

I got the trial pair last night, not the EXACT prescription yet, but getting used to wearing them first. I get the actual prescription next week sometime and am looking forward to seeing how well I begin to improve on my "more than half the table" shots. Hoping that someday, I won't have to make comments like "Too much green" or "I'm clearly not a golfer". Thanks for everyones input. How long after getting contacts did you begin to notice an improvement in your games?
