I came across this while reading a post by Corey Deuel on facebook. John Morra is apparently very unhappy getting beat in this fashion. A quote from him:

"You should be ashamed of yourself for breaking like that. Degrading the game. And then bragging about it on fb lol. Let's play some 10 ball on the 9 footer. Bet what you want"

Nothing to be mad about, it's Corey's genius. He truly is a student of the game, and adapts to everything.

The are no rules in this tourney regarding the pattern of the rack.

Corey's simply taking full advantage of this loophole, as he should.

Corey is a genius when it comes to the rack and break. He has been an innovator in new techniques that have led to different rules

changes over the years. He thinks outside the box and did his homework and came up with another crazy break. Corey double

dipped john at Chinook Winds 8ball, beat him two sets at Smokin Aces, and now this one for five straight wins on John in

tournament play. I think his frustration showed alittle. John had his chances in that match.

Corey is incredibly intelligent to even think of breaking like that. I would have never even considered it.

Great post

His 8 ball break at Chinook winds was great...would send whitey off the rail and back into the breaking apart rack to scatter them even better.

Probably why Morra is upset...Corey double dipped Morra for the $10K in that tourney.

Corey is smart guy I've seen him do this at another tourney with John and john threw fit like a kid way to play corey keep it up

Morra sounds silly.
Why didn't he wake up and just do the very same thing himself? It wasn't illegal.
Dumb!

Corey's break, was common knowledge long ago !..When I first started playing pool, (65 yrs. ago) it was commonly used for the break shot, in both 8 ball, straight pool, or cribbage !...I see nothing wrong with Corey using it, and kudos to him for finding out about it, or re-inventing it !..It ain't 'rocket science'..both players can use it !..Morra should have just been sharp enough to duplicate it !

What is really funny to me is none of the old farts on here bring up, "Why did it take over 50 years to figure the soft break and pattern racking out"...myself included. Johnnyt

This is not the way the box 8 ball is supposed to be played. This wing ball bank pattern rack and his 2nd ball pattern rack is as greasy as it gets!

Corey's great at creating these silly racks but new rules will now have to follow to change this from happening again. This is not helping pool.

You guys that think it's great need a lesson about box 8 ball. Ask any pro what they think about this s**t!

It is not hurting pool either.

Corey is a bad ass pool mofo.

I am sure if lil' Johnny wants to play Corey, they can come to some agreement. Set of 9 or 10b, a 1p and a 14.1 sounds like a fine battle...and I'd imagine morra could net all he wants too.

I'm not a big fan of the pattern rack, but more of a old-school style rack. Pool needs people like Corey to expose the flaws in the rules(or lack thereof). Other games have evolved in similar ways and continue to do so.

As far as Corey goes.. think about the fact that he can keep coming up with new ways to beat people. Now that's pretty strong. That he's also able to maintain a high level of consistency performing those new styles is impressive as well. Do people want to ban the head ball break if he can repeatedly hit it and make the same ball?

Corey has Morra scared and he doesn't like it.

It does hurt pool. I'm surprised you don't see it.

A fine battle? Corey's a lock for 1 pocket and heavy favourite in straight pool.

I'm sure if Corey wanted to play 9ft 10 ball or standard box 8 ball Corey can get all he wants. If they play either let me know if you wanna sweat it.

Apparently the next event will have the same pattern for everyone and Corey will have to compete just like everyone else.

I'm surprised they didn't already expect this to happen and have the alternating stripes vs solids rule. The Reno finals and the recent Chinook winds open used this after Corey's racking in Reno.

It doesn't seem right, but you gotta hand it to the guy. If it doesn't violate a rule then whats the problem

It does violate the "spirit" of the rules!

The break was always "intended" to be random in outcome and ball placements. Rack rigging violates the "original" design and intent of the games creators!

To be honest, that is why in 50 years no one was "so nitty" to try and figure out how to cheat the games creators original design and intent!!!

I can't buy into this. I seriously doubt that there was any thought about a need for randomness by the games designers and if Corey was around then to show them his techniques I think they would probably applaud them. Plus Corey is not the first to figure out breakshots.

To me your example is sort of like saying the onside kick should be illegal in football because way back when the games designers intended a kickoff to be kicked to the other team..
