Convert into a jump cue.

I have a plain jane break cue made out of African Blackwood. It has a leather wrap on it and weighs more then I would like for a break cue, but I don't want to get rid of it because I like the wood grain. Would it be possible to cut the handle off and core out some of the back and convert it to a jump cue or would that be too much trouble?

It's actually quite simple to do. I had an older McDermott that I wasn't useing so I cut the forearm off from the handle and put a quick release joint in it and wala..... a new jump/break cue.

Too much trouble? African Blackwood is hard, dense wood, but it is certainly possible however you might not be willing to pay what it costs. And another thought is simply keep it as your break cue and have it cored out to lighten it. What does it weigh now and how light do you want to go?

Don't cut the butt..... get a jump handle made for the shaft.....

weight

It's 21.5 and I'd prefer 19.

I don't know how you wuld lighten it without coring it out. If I'm going to do that, wouldn't it be better to build it from scratch? I'm not a cue maker, so please tell me if my assumptions are incorrect.

I know the wood is heavy for a jump cue, but with it being as dense as it is I figured it could work if half of it was hollow. I don't want to part with it.

Let me know your thoughts.

Well, there are light jump cues and heavy ones.
I added more weight to my jump cue and it works even better for me.

Depends on what you prefer. I had a light one and couldn't jump worth a darn.
