Converting Wrapless to Stack leather wrap

An older friend of mine has a wrapless cue he has been shooting with for about 10 years. The other day he shot with my scruggs that had a stacked wrap on it. He loved the feel of it!

He wants to know if you can get a stacked wrap without changing cues. Is it possible to change the wrapless to a stacked wrap?

Does it change the answer if the cue is full spliced?

Let me know of any info to give him.

Thanks,

Patrick

Yes, the cue can be undercut for a wrap. It won't change the cue but could deaden the sound of it a little. Probably not enough to notice.

If you send the cue out to be wrapped, mark the cue where you want the wrap to start and stop. Most of the time it's a 1-2 day turn around.

Best Wishes,

Steve

Stacked leather wrap

Yes it can be done without a problem just mark where and how lone you want it. Most that I do are 12ins. And I do alot of them. Here are some pics. Best Regards Dan Axe

I don't want to be a jerk but the wrap in your pics need some extra attention. The middle of the wrap does not match the taper of the cue, the edges are a little rough, and the stain is blotchy. They are easy fixes if you go back and rework it. That's the beauty of stack wraps.

Just for the record I have been a cueman since 1982 >>> The cue in the pic and wrap are how the customer ordered it and is very happy with how if feels and looks he wanted it to look old and warn and he picked the color and texture the transition from wood to leather is dead on and not ruff with voids he wanted it a little high in the middle like the old Brunswicks were . I have never had a problem giving the customer what they want so whats your ##$$%$%@@ problem. For a guy thats says he doin.t want to be a JERK you did a good job of ImPERSoNATING one . I think I speak for a lot of members like me who doin.t get on here much and speak because of people like you. Heres another pic of a BLACK WRAP and yep its just what the customer wanted sorry for the poor pics but I.m not am expert you have a nice day . Hey mister Admin this goes against all forum Rules . Lol !!

I think if anyone would be an experienced cueman to give any input or suggestions in this thread it would be Ryan (RATCUES)..

I know the rules. I've been posting for a while and haven't had any troubles with the Mods.

Full time?

The cue in the pic and wrap are how the customer ordered it and is very happy with how if feels and looks he wanted it to look old and warn and he picked the color and texture the transition from wood to leather is dead on and not ruff with voids he wanted it a little high in the middle like the old Brunswicks were.

Its your pic, not mine. It is the one YOU chose to use as an example. I know what wraps are supposed to look like. Its not what you posted. Maybe next time you could be more clear about the cue in your pic so there is no confusion.

I have never had a problem giving the customer what they want so whats your ##$$%$%@@ problem. For a guy thats says he doin.t want to be a JERK you did a good job of ImPERSoNATING one . I think I speak for a lot of members like me who doin.t get on here much and speak because of people like you.

I was giving constructive criticism. I thought I was respectful and honest. There is no one out there, other than Tiger, that does more stack wraps than me. I've given help to many others along the way. Sorry that you don't see it that way.

If there are members that would rather not have me post, I'd be more than happy to stop. I have cues to work on. Its just that I enjoy the forum and the people on it.

another pic of a BLACK WRAP and yep its just what the customer wanted sorry for the poor pics but I.m not am expert you have a nice day.

The black wrap looks a little better. Good job. Try to get the grooves between strands to be less prominent.

If I did violate the rules, I will serves whatever punishment the Mods see fit.

IMHO you are overreacting - I think you read more into Ryan's post than was there and got your feelings hurt, hence the defensive tone in your reply.

You could simply have stated "Yeah, but that's what the customer requested . . . thicker in the middle . . . rough and ready and mixed stain for that old-fashioned look." Yada yada yada . . . No need to get your britches all wadded up.

Ryan has contributed more here than many and he shares his experience and techniques without expectation of anything but someone else's increased knowledge.

My 2 cents,

Gary

I like to see the grooves between the strands. If you pressed them together too much it would look like a leather wrap. And then, you could just put on a leather wrap. I thought it was the definition of the stack that made it unique from a leather wrap.

Seeing them and feeling them are two different things.

Great work Ryan!
Nice two-tone wrap. I like it.

Please throw away that digital caliper though. You're too young for that. :grin-square:

Those calipers are not mine. For some reason, I don't trust them.
