If one has a few straight house cues with good tight grain would it be more beneficial to convert them to a favorite cue?

Since they have been in use for awhile are they less apt to warp than say a new custom shaft.

Would you do it or just have some new ones made?

I believe the house cues were made with better wood years ago. I use to go down to the supplier twice a year and buy 2 or 3 dozen for my room in NY. I've probably had a dozen or more made into sneakty petes/hustlers cues over the years. I had to leave a lot of them behind in bars and get out in a hurry...sometimes the bathroom window. I hate bars on bathroom windows. I believe I use to pay about $2 a piece for them in bulk and another $10 or $15 to have the one I wanted made into a sneaky. Today cutom sneaky's points and Mother of Plastic in them...wtf? Johnnyt

I have converted several house cue shafts into shafts for cues I have made or vintage cues that just needed a new shaft. Like you said they are time tested and some have very dense growth rings.;)
