Cool shot

Played a practice-match against Line Kjorsvik today, and when faced with the layout below I spent some time trying to figure out what to do. It was impossible to go rail first because of the centerpocket, and I could only see a tiny part of the 5-ball so I couldn't get a good safety by hitting it directly.

I decided to go for a creative massé-shot, but I hit the 7-ball in the face and fuvked up, but I was convinced it would work, and after the rack me and Line tried it again, and Line nailed it on the second try. And she was convinced it wouldn't work ;)

Thought it was a cool shot, and wanted to share it with you :) You might need it one day ;)

Very creative shot Roy! And, great on "seeing" it. However, the way you have the table set up, the 5 is very makeable. If you hit one half diamond short of the side pocket by the 6, you will come straight into the 7 with no english. You need to go one diamond farther, so add one tip of left english. That should put you right into the 5, and maybe even make it. Give it a try next time you are at table.

I like the very creative shot by Roy and Line here, but I would contend that you cannot make the five ball shooting into the side rail, with the balls laying as shown. There's just no angle here to do that. You'll be doing good just to hit the left side of the five. I know you're good Neil, but not that good.
I'd bet against ANYONE going to the side rail first and kicking the five in. Even using the masse as Roy described it is an extremely low percentage shot.

P.S. Now I see you are talking about going across table to the other side rail and kicking the five in. That is a makable shot, but also very difficult, and low percentage. Your best bet here is to try to go long and hit the end rail first and kick into the five from the bottom/end rail. You might get safe shooting this way, and it is a bigger ball to hit. Trying to kick directly at the five brings the scratch in the corner into play. Bad spot to be in any way you look at it. :p

Yeah, I knew I could it hit it going other routes, but sometimes you just get the feel for a shot and know it will work ;)

I would of course do it like this in a tournament-setting unless the other rail somehow were blocked.

I guess I was just tired of playing bad position and not being able to run racks, so with the will to stay on the table I used my creativity as best I could :)

Pretty cool shot indeed! But I would have just cut the 7 ball into the side rail and have the 7 carom off of the 5 ball into the corner pocket.

You are talking about one pocket here, aren't you? I mean you're practicing for a one pocket tournament right? :grin-devilish:

Line playing one-pocket? Haha

It's nearly impossible to find someone willing to play one-pocket in this country, but I've managed to play 30 racks the last two days! (No Joey, we play faster than you, we don't use 30 days on 2 racks).

I'm leaving back home in a few days, so no more one-pocket practice :(

Roy, if you were playing a dude, you wouldn't have tried that shot. :D

Cool shot though. Gonna try it later.

Edit - BTW I meant that in the showing off sense. Oops if that sounded different. Aye chihuahua

This reminds me of a shot idea that a fried of mine had. A long jump shot where you are jumping way high over nothing then landing on the table short of the obstructing ball and then bouncing off the table and over that obstructing ball to make a ball.

Anyone ever seen that done? I can think of scenarios where this would be the only offensive shot. I personally think it is so low percentage that it would only be shot in a fun game but curious if someone has done it in a fun game or serious.

Trying to jump an OB on the second hop, basically?
I've tried that a handful of times (fun games, of course). I haven't been able to make it yet though. Still a very creative shot IMO, but very lot percentage.
