Corey Deuel looking for game at Fiddlestix's next week

A top ranked Professional pool player proudly supporting our sport of billiards...wearing a "Titleist" hat! I have nothing against Corey, golf or Titleist, but comn' wear a Brunswick, Jacoby, Hustler, Predator, Simonis or something related to billiards!
Thanks,
Zim

What's he supposed to wear, a cap with "Woody The Woodpecker" on it for his new cue line? Remember, he's a young single guy with a lot of testosterone either hustlin' pool or trying to hustle chicks and I don't think he's going to make a great impression with some young hottie that see's that logo and associates it with him being some kind of "PeckerHead".

You gottat think about these things at all times Zim. (Zim...last seen at a convenience store with white patent leather shoes, white belt, plaid shorts, and mid calf black socks buying diapers. Or now that he's entering geezerdom, was that actually SJM that was sighted?) ;) :D

I thought that Niels played George B. when he went to Indianapolis. And i guess Corey has had a change of heart at the game, cause I heard from his mouth that he didn't like the game and wouldn't play, but, i'm sure now that he's getting a 10,000 dollar free roll his mind has changed. But hell, who wouldn't try and out run the nuts for free. :)

We did go down to play George but that was more to visit him and have fun, I tryied calling a couple weeks a head of time to George and Strong Arm to try and get a bigger game with Brian.

A lot of players I stake have a change of heart when I get involved. All I know Brian might have the dead nuts but ever since Strong Arm mentioned the game to me months ago I put the nuts on the table and no ones went from them yet. If Brian want's to come down next week he will get played and if he wins he will get a hand shake and a bunch of money. amc4

but i hear that if he wishes a game Scott Frost will be only too glad to ablidge him. that would be a match worth traveling to see, two of the best playing a real treat. i would hate to choose a favorite in that game but the side betting would make someone alot for sure. Tell him if you know the gentleman and I will pass the word on to mr. Frost . thanks for the information

I put Corey in the box with Scott Frost at Derby City. I don't nomally stake guys at one pocket, because I find the game to be boring and take to long, but when Corey and Scott match up it is a very exciting match. If he wants to come down and play I'll let Corey play him for 2,000 to 10,000 at one pocket and if he wants to play 9-ball or rotation I'm sure we can get it to 25,000+. Mika and I had fun playing doubles with him and Phoebe Choy at Derby City too. I would have to say that Phoebe played the best out of all of us. Just let me know and maybe we can work something out. amc4

I have seen other threads where you support the Hustlin theme and for the life of me I do not understand. You and others in this forum continually talk and write about improving the image of pool and work hard to accomplish that end, then you turn around and support one of the biggest things that is negative about pool and that is hustling.

Hustlin is used in other ways also that are not positve. Prostitutes and Johns use this all the time in their profession.

I like their product, not their logo and I would not buy my grandkids such a shirt, especially my granddaughters. You can agree to disagree if you like.

When I see the Hustlin logo, I am not visualizing roughnecks strong-arming weaker players or conning and sharking others for their monies, just as I wouldn't think that a person who is wearing a Harley Davidson T-shirt is condoning any negative actions of a biker group known as the Hells Angels, even though 99.9 percent of the Hells Angels' members seem to ride Harleys. In my neck of the woods, the bikers have become quite philanthropic, donating toys to tots and the like. There are actually senior citizens riding Harleys now who join groups of other like-minded Harley riders for treks cross-country. They like the Harley-Davidson brand.

The Hustlin brand is an American clothing line which offers hats, T-shirts, polo shirts, sweats, and coats to pool folk in a variety of sizes and colors. I like the Hustlin brand, and it seems that there are thousands of others who do as well. Because I like the clothing line does not mean I condone cheating or sharking. The mere mention of the image you portray relating to this clothing line seems ridiculous in my mind, but I will take you up on your offer that we can agree that we both disagree. :p

Nifty,

If you look back at the threads (at least the threads that I remember), I think you will see that it is not the "image" of pool that we are trying to improve. It is the popularity. Hustling people out of easy money, hanging in seedy places, and meeting the characters involved in the "gambling" side of pool is what really caught my interest and attracted me to the game in the first place. But because these things interest me does not mean that I am in any way this type of person. And again, poker and other sports have become more popular with pasts which are just as immoral as pools'.

If your granddaughter is younger than a teenager, it shouldn't really matter what shirt she wears. If she is at least 13, then wearing a shirt with "hustlin" written on it is probably not one of your bigger problems as a grandparent. Ask her the type of music she listens to. You talk about "prostitutes and johns". She is probably listening to music that belittles women so badly that it refers frequently to them in songs as "bitches and hos". The music openly discusses killing people for drugs or for fun. Your grandkids, or at least many of their friends, walk around with their pants hanging half off of their asses, and experiment with cigarettes, alcohol, sex, and drugs. I think, considering the state of the world today, that wearing a shirt with the word "hustlin" is not that bad.

I think Jam is correct that almos all Harley riders today are middle classed, good people. IMO, pool has experienced a similar change. There are many upstanding citizens Nifty, like yourself and Jam, who enjoy and are involved in pool today. The people I meet at tournament and in the poolroom are not the slovenly crooks that you associate with pool and the word "hustling".

As you said, it is our right as Americans to have any opinion we like about any subject. But to me, pool is much different today than it's impoverished early history.

amc, can you please let me know on this thread what day corey will be at fiddlestix once u know? Canton is an hour drive for me and Szuter is sick of me calling and asking if any pros are up there. I would be thrilled to come down and watch.

Thanks very much,
Henry

Henry, Corey and Nick Varner were at Fiddlestix's last night. Nick will be doing an exhibition at the Universtiy of Akron this afternoon at 2:00pm at the student union. After, he will be doing challange matches in there game room. Corey tells me he will be going down to check it out and then will be doing challange matches as well. This is free to all that show up. I'll let you know next week when Corey and Gabe will be down but if there's no action they won't come up and I'll probably be going down to West Jefferson to golf with them. amc4

lol Aaron, I'm sorry - I should clarify... I have someone who will play him. Would prefer not to talk about it on here though.

Will you be in Jacksonville for the Florida Open with Corey?

I would love to go to Jacksonville but I only get a couple of weeks off work each year. I might go down to Naples a couple times on the weekend to golf with Troy. This year I'll be taking one of my weeks to go to the BCA in Vegas and the other one I think to go to the Philippians with Mika.

I'm sure when we get down there we will be able to work a game out with your friend. amc4

Thanks amc, i dont think I can make it to Akron today, but I appreciate you letting me know who is in town. Too bad I missed Nick and Corey yesterday!

ROTFLMAO....PERFECT!!! So I guess there's a not so good connotation and a good connotation between "woodpecker" and "wood-pecker", huh?

If Corey likes the game you got action. The most we can go with a couple other guys getting involved is about 250,000. amc4

Hell, why not just make it a cool $1M?

I'm serious if the weight is right. Not for $1M, that was a joke...

Your arguement is full of holes

Other than being labeled as "hypocritical," a word bandied about on discussion forums quite frequently when one disagrees with another's opinion, I read your post with interest, Nfty9er.

A friend of mine drives a Volkswagen. This company supported Hitler's charge in Germany some years ago and exploited human beings, using them as slaves in their factories. Many folks refuse to buy their products because of this. When I see a Volkswagen, I am reminded of the days when long-haired hippies from the Woodstock generation drove Volkswagen vans with peace signs and flowers, and I don't look at the Volkswagen drivers as Nazi supporters.

The problem with your arguement is that Harley Davidson or Volkswagen do not literally mean anything you describe. That would only be in the eye of the beholder if they want to connect the two. Hustling means hustling and it is what it is. I have 4 beautiful daughters and if they wore a shirt with hustlin emblazoned across the front all the guys gawking would only think one thing, thats what they are doing. The same with a guy walking into the pool room with one on,, it would only make me suspicious, but be that it may he or she has a right to wear it. Personally I would be embarassed to have my daughter wear it as the eye of the beholder might get the wrong impression.
The pool world may know its all in fun but the general public may not. Try walking down Las Vegas Blvd. with one of those on and see the reaction you would get. But to each their own.
